The Democratic Party saying "The campaign considered buying the kerryedwards.com domain name soon after Sen. Edwards joined the ticket but decided Mr. Edwards' asking price was too high." is a great example of how cheap buyers are when it comes to failing to realize the comparatively small price of a domain vs the benefits.

The article say's all they would offer was $10,000. But even at the $150,000 bid price it is actually similar to petty cash to The Democratic Party, where they can likely raise $150,000 at a fund raising campaign dinner for example. Can you imagine how much they spend on advertising in a single day?

Since campaign organizations are noncommercial entities, their Web sites are properly placed in .org addresses rather than .com... the Libertarian candidate has this right. (See http://www.badnarik.org/.)

I would like to see a story about a campaign giving credit to the domain name for a win.

The Democrats will probably spend Two hundred million and another three hundred million from affiliated groups.

150K is a very small price to pay for the domain name.

I remember a few stories about this actually happening, but don't remember the elections.

In one case, there simply wasn't enough money to fund the campaign, so the candidate requested donations through his blog. The response was an overwhelming amount of contributions that supposedly helped him win the election.

In another case, a candidate's opponent controlled his domain name and posted some very unflattering info on the site. This supposedly cost him the election.

Like I said before, just one fund raising dinner would have been able to get the name at its $150,000 price.

On TV today someone mentioned some political fund raising dinners cost $10,000 a plate. So only 150 people equals $150,000.

What idiots in not offering more than $10,000, the cost of just one ticket. It's because so many media people and conventional marketing experts fail to realize the incredible vlaue of domain names.
