It is still an abbreviation. I would much prefer WestVirginia.com over WV.com. I have no idea how much state.com's are going for, but I know I would rather buy a country.com.

Here is a little known fact.
I did most of my undergraduate work in west virginia.
You would be shocked, mortified, amazed, and amused at the number of people I have encountered that did not know west virginia was a state.

It reminds me of the video when they asked a guy which state is KFC from, and even when he said what the abbreviation stands for, he didn't know the answer.

I have a little experience with state codes .com and .org.
If it was based solely on it being a state code it would have seen twice this amount and some in years past.
a wv cable tv or news or other business can fall in love with it and pay a nice multiple on it down the road. congrats to the buyer.
