Country: | XP.com at Sedo. May Microsoft buy this domain name? XP.com @ Sedo It looks like the owner of XP.com wants to try to cash in ASAP, before Windows XP retirement.
The domain is being auctioned at Sedo.com and the current bid is 499K with just 4 days to go. The reserve has NOT been met. It will be interesting to see how high the bidding goes and if the reserve is met. |

Country: | I guess 500k is the reserve. If Microsoft wasn't interested in the last 7 years, i'm sure they will not bother to buy a domain for an old product.

Country: | agreed, and the 499k bid is obviously a shill bid
not only that, but even if MSFT did decide to bid on the domain, it would probably be the only bidder at that price and would take it at exactly the reserve price

Country: | Agreed, shill bid right up to the reserve price.
I spoke with this owner on the phone last month ( suddenly for sale at auction ) . I made her a VERY nice offer and she considered it but her partner wanted more. She was a very nice lady and easy to talk to. She admitted the highest offer they had years and years ago was $200k. Was she telling the truth ? I have no clue, problem is use on this one. Can you avoid a UDRP/C&D/WIPO , sure avoid the infringing microsoft use, problem is monitizing a 6 figure name when the real use is infringing |

Country: | I think, that if Microsoft wants something, they'll take it. Also, they would never invest in xp.com as of today, as it's an operative system which is on it's way out of the market.

Country: | Real brilliant to try and sell it 7 years after XP is launched and a year and a half after Vista is launched. I'm sure next they'll be thinking of buying Google stock ...soon.

If msft really wanted it then they would probably file a UDRP before forking over $1M+. I just don't see them spending that much $ for this name.

Country: | Only a company with existing "XP" trademark can safely buy this.
Of course microsoft isn't interested, but try putting and PPC on it and you will lose it in the blink of an eye. Microsoft has trademarks about everything a man can think of.
UDRP thinks a change of ownership as a new registration so the 1995 year of registration will not help.
I would only offer 3 months of revenue.

Country: | This name is worth about 100-150k and you would be a fool to try to monetize this name...really the only buyer would be MS, and they had their chance probably to sell to them at that 200k offer years ago...greed will get ya every time!

Country: | Theo, current users are safe with the 1995 registration date. (Although current use has some flaws.) But whoever buys this domain, AND does not have an XP trademark, is in for a rough ride.

Country: | Well if it is a shill bid it doesn't speak to the honesty of the owners or whoever their agent is who put up the auction. As soon as anyone figures that out, they aren't going to participate in that auction. |
