basic question on .asp

I'm new to .asp and I see lots of sites that when clicked on a link... the url goes from www.domainname.com to www.domainname.com/index.asp?SID=58. Click on another page it will say www.domainname.com/index.asp?SID=77. Basically what is the whole 'index.asp?=#' way of linking? Where can I read about it and why are so many websites using this? Is it pulling text from a mysql table? Is this some sort of online, live template?

Just thought I would hurry up and catch up with the times.

Thanks.

Re: basic question on .asp

Well, this is an old post, but in case you or anyone else is interested, it's called a querystring and you can use it to do a number of things - mainly to process form information (GET method) and to pull info from a database. See more about querystring in ASP here - http://www.w3schools.com/asp/coll_querystring.asp.

Re: basic question on .asp

Wouldn't it be easier to do this using PHP?
