How do I get sidebar JUST on homepage of Wordpress?

Hi, can someone tell me if there is a simple way to get the sidebar to show up JUST on my homepage (off privacy, contact, etc)?

I'm just using the default theme for now...everyone seems to love Wordpress - but why is it so difficult to find out such seemingly simple things on there??? (sorry, just venting)

I've looked online and all I've found is complicated various coding tweeks - so many options, I'm not sure which to attempt. Isn't there a simpler way?

To my knowledge you have to tweak the code for the layout. It would be nice if they were to incorporate a function within the admin panel.

Take out the part that pulls up the sidebar in the single post view page.

(directory)/wp-content/themes/(theme)

look into single.php (or singlepost.php) and manipulate this line?
