What is the /tmp partition

I have a website that uses php. Every two weeks my website crashes do to the /tmp partition being over used. I have ask my hosting company to help me by increasing the /tmp partition space. They responded by saying the following:
"No matter how big we set the /tmp partition someone can fill it
up. The /tmp partition is shared among all users and even You can fill
it up. You would need to store your temp files on your account."

I don't know what they are talking about...."store your temp files on your account."... Can someone here explain how to store my temp files on my account in simple english g

Re: What is the /tmp partition

nah
your s outta luck
its a Unix thing that you dont have access to.
you would need to run massive modifications to your account to get this working

my suggestion - graduate to a virtual host where you get a virtual box or get your own server with plenty of elbow space

does your script do file uploading?
or is it the other sites that are causing /tmp to fill?
(you know, like if someone tries to upload a photoshop iso and cuts it off halfway before it finishes)

Re: What is the /tmp partition

dONT play with /tmp permissions or size.
just find out what is filling it...possibly an upload script..set a max size foir this script...if a php script there is something on php.ini which defines the max upload.

Re: What is the /tmp partition

VPS/VDS (virtual private/dedicated server), as said above would be your best bet in this case, rather than shared hosting. Who knows, you might want to consider going dedicated.

P.S. VPN means virtual private network, nameslave.

Re: What is the /tmp partition

Oops! Yes, I guess kingeric means VPS and not shared hosting.
