Best CMS solution for data oriented site

I am planning to launch a history (archives) site NFLArchives.com. Now this site will be data driven with loads of cross-linked data and web pages. This will also feature a shop for NFL gear, memorablia, CDs/DVDs. Another important feature will be a NFL Forum. Essentially, the entire project will be a community driven effort where the data will be updated based on user

I have already decided on the forum software (which will be vBulletin).

Now, I need an excellent Content Management System which can ease the work of data publishing. I am an open-source guy, but am ready to use a commercial solution that can really ease the data input and publishing work. Moreover, I am also looking forward to a really nice layout with good user experience.

I have already looked into XOOPS but still undecided. Please post your comments and recommendations for this project.

Thanks
FusionX

Re: Best CMS solution for data oriented site

Hey Fusion,
Go check out http://cmsmadesimple.org/
and also there's a board that seems to be down today, www.opensourcecms.com - this is the ultimate cms resource I know of. They compare any and all production cms worth their weight. I'd keep checking that url to see if it loads later.

Definitely Mambo/Xoops are the best CMS available on the market.

Hands down Mambo. Its certainly more complex but if you know your way around it, its more powerful than most other CMS' out there.

Re: Best CMS solution for data oriented site

Mambo is good, but it still lacks support from third party. Example, templates for Mambo are still really rudimentary--from a commercial standpoint.
If you want something that's established and fully endorsed/support, phpnuke would be your best bet.

I cannot agree, take a look at these sites for 100s of free/GPL, state-of-the-art, Mambo templates and third-party components and modules:
This is just a sample - there are many more sites like these. And Mambo's template system and CMS beat PHPNuke hands-down as far as flexibility and ease-of-use goes. None of the usual 3-column "portal designs" with Mambo, unless you choose to ...

There are also many designers offering commercial templates and add-ons, including http://mamboshop.com and others.

Good resources to learn more about Mambo include http://mambers.com and http://mamble.com. The official site is http://mamboserver.com.

Mambo rocks! There's a reason it was chosen as "Best Linux or Open Source Software", "Best Open Source Solution", " Best Free Software Project of the Year", etc.
