    Forum Script

Similar to this site as I am starting up a local network and need a brilliant forum script.

I am looking for the following items in the script: -

    1) Where users get credits for every post they make.
    2) The ability to sell banner and advertising space.

Anyone know of a decent one that is quite cheap, the cheaper the better as a colleague of mine has spent nearly all our budget on advertising in a newspaper that doesnt sell in the region we are looking for lol

    Re: Forum Script

What do you mean by credits for every post the make?

phpBB is the best free forum solution. vBulletin is the best paid solution, imho. (this forum uses vBulletin) They just released a new version 3.6 with some nice new features so now may be a good time to jump on board.

Credits as in the F$ you get on this forum, just something to encourage people to use the forum.

Yeah that's just a forum hack. To be honest, I would be more worried about the content of the forum rather then the gimmicky addons to begin with. That's what will ensure the longevity of the forum.

What software was the previous forum based on? Check to see if the new one has an import feature to help you migrate the old forum users/content over, otherwise you might have to hire an sql wiz to do it for you.

vBulletin has the IMPEX script which will import from most popular forum boards.

    Re: Forum Script

Would you all recommend vBulletin over phpBB if one could afford it and is vBulletin easier to mod than phpBB, right now I'm trying to mod a phpBB forum and it's a lot of work to mod it. I can do the coding, but would rather have more of a plugin based forum without all the "open this file, and change this code."

Just wondering if vBulletin is that way?

    Re: Forum Script

Anything over phpbb...even if it means you pay. PHPBB is a mess.

I use Mybb ( http://www.mybboard.net ) personally but they don't have the amount of mods already written that say VB does. I am also not a fan of SMF. I find it's look and layout to be poor.

If you need something like the credits my recommendation is VB which gives you plenty of options to work with (imho too many).
