I had set up a site using PHPnuke a few years ago through an automated script on my webhost's Cpanel. I know there have been new versions released since then and I noticed there is an option in Cpanel to upgrade my exisitng installation.
However, I'm a little weary, in the event I run the upgrade and something messes up. What do I need to do to fully backup and prepare myself for this upgrade? I'm not even sure I remember the database passwords, etc.

With an upgrade like that you should do a complete site backup including all files and sql database. Not knowing your database password might be okay as long as you can make a backup of it.
