It is hosted solution and they run their ads on the site then they charge for every feature.

I prefer to buy the script.

Have you seen Socialengine.net - we are looking into using this one...it is very powerful, but with all the add on's...kind of expensive.

I used phpfox for a while, had no problems with it and enjoyed all the features. Only reason I stopped using it was the activity never was really there and not making enough money and the costs kept increasing so gave up. Kind of regret it because I did like having a social platform at my control...

if you are developer and create scripts and stuff , elgg is very good to go , i support opensource scripts and elgg won the best social networking script award for 2008
