1. www.nearplaces.info - Visitors guide for searching for anything using either zip code or a complete address. View maps and directions to the location and share it with friends via facebook.
2. www.rantabout.me - Funny idea, but just for people to come and post anything thats on their mind, and read what others are saying as well.

I'm a fan of simplistic interface design that's easy to use. Like those apps Google keeps rolling out.
I love the idea of nearplaces.info but if you could change the background to a broad white and position the query interface up front that'd be much better. Also the layout is not looking good from various browsers, seems you have absolutely positioned some of the elements. Download a theme and modify instead of coming up of your own if you are not a pro of HTML and CSS.
Buy content databases as starting point of your niche information sites and web applications.
Find help in developing them into fully functioning PHP website scripts with user / member systems and advanced administrator features.
