How can I do seo and increase traffic to my fitness site? (FitCircles.com)

I need advice on how to do seo and how to promote my social network. its build on the Ning platform so you have to use their plugins. I have the free version now, I dont care about adding google ads until the site gets more popular (ning adds them and keeps the income on the free sites).

I am adding links and bought some traffic from someone posting on dnf, but what else can I do to promote a social network?

Things like facebook, myspace, twitter, yahoo groups, other related forums can help. Get the word out about your social network.

Thanks! I will do that. When you say Facebook, etc does that only mean putting a link, on my own Facebook page, to my site? Or are there other ways to promote on Facebook, Myspace, and Linked in? And twitter - I dont even use twitter. I have an account; inactive. How to promote something on twitter?

I have used Facebook groups to generate traffic.

For advertising on myspace I join as many groups as possible thats related to the niche of my site. Guess its not your typical buying ppc traffic or link exchanges but it works.
