Good idea, looks OK, but I think you are going to serious cripple yourself if you don't make the searchable data available in the browser via a standard table.

I mean you are forcing people to use Excel to view the data when the data should be searchable and viewable online, maybe via paid membership. At least promote Open Office instead of expensive MS products that not everyone is going to have or be willing to buy.

So people who don't have excel on their computers, who download Open Office, will still be able to view my excel file?

I believe so. Just download Open Office yourself and give it a try.

No, no. The real problem is that you are crippling yourself with wordpress. ITS JUST A BLOG! Get a real content management system and you won't have to force your users to download software (in other words, scare your users away...).

Thanks, can you point me in the right direction in regards to "Real Content Management"?

My personal preference would be Drupal, but many people advocate Joomla.

Any chance you could show me a drupal site using something similar to what I have, so I can understand how drupal works?

What exactly do you want to do with the website?

List the features and I'll write down a step by step.

Well I am just confused to how you say that I should make the data viewable online. I am just offering a simple download. I cant see how drupal will make it any better?

Well you are currently offering a download which forces your users to have software to view. People are also suspicious of downloading files. With a better cms, you could just display the data online in a table, so that they could view it on your website direct. This would also get you better search placement (keeping your data online rather than in files).

Can you show me a website using the same with an excel spreadsheet, so I can understand what you mean?

    Thanks Mate
