Thumbs up readersheds.co.uk - Share your shed

We just had the best day on readersheds.co.uk in terms of uniques since I changed the stats wossname this year (657 uniques ), mainly thanks to a mention on a certain tea and sitdown and biscuits website..

so i thought i would get an experts view on my shed site, then i decided to come here.. ( ).

anyway..

have a look and let me know where iam going wrong/or right.

or just even share your shed (which is the idea of the site, to catolog the UK's then the worlds shed population)

excuse the mess as it is a blinking shed site..

not good at all i have done no SEO work apart from some keywords on the main template., its all about the content being updated daily... being semi original.. and getting links on the right websites, yahoo, bbc and guardian,The Register, plus being mentioned in a few shed books.

market leap links:
readersheds.co.uk 518 0 2 0 0 514 2
www.readersheds.co.uk 2,210 458 557 68 68 514 545

its a only a PR5.

oh and its taken a few years to get there, so patience and some hard work..
plus believing in your dream (my curiosity to see other peoples sheds)

buying about 20 shed keyword related domains may have helped
www.sheddomains.com

but i love it... shed/s that is..

any shed friends out there with any views on how i make it easy to use?

Congratulations Wilco

Readerssheds.co.uk has gotta be the best shed enthusiasts site out there (mind you, I don’t know of many others, lol )

One thing I would say…

Don’t force people to register as a forum member before being able to view the index. IMO, the best way to have a fairly new forum set up is to have it set so that guests can view and reply to existing threads but must register as a member to start new threads.

cheers rob, if there are any other shed sites out there let me know, i would like to spread the shed with them/

the reason i have set it to register members on the forum, is that it was gettign some abuse before xmas and i dont have the time to moderate it everyday, iam looking at opening it up again soon... but will still need members to reply.also trusting someone to moderate and who has a sheddie sense of things is difficult.. on a zero buget.

ta for your time, and get your shed on there..

NP.

I’ve had similar problems and there are ways around it…

You can set your permissions so that guests can view the index and topics but need to register to start new threads or reply to existing ones.

You also have the option to validate any new posts/threads made before they go live.

Re: readersheds.co.uk - Share your shed

thanks for the support i have had some nice emails!..
(and a few people wanting links on the site..)

just to let you know that now you can view the shedis that have more than one photo, and the sheddies that have put them up have done us proud.

http://www.readersheds.co.uk/readers...eyhavebothered

also you can win a voucher towards a new shed (UK only sorry) but that has had 200 entries so far...

btw we had 630 uniques yesterday and 592 so far today, so its slowing down, but as long as we get some more sheds on there Iam not botherd..

cheers wilco

Re: readersheds.co.uk - Share your shed

oh the irony..

OVT UK values for my site.

readersheds.co.uk,7

but the alternative spelling (that i have never used, but some people do!!)

readerssheds.co.uk,14

of course i have that as well its worth protecting your brand even if you can't spell in the first place.

Re: readersheds.co.uk - Share your shed

Hi,

Real nice website - but I got a few comments

Please see above image ;

1. On the top half of the 'wooden menu' there's some white space at the right side.
2. The link text is blue, but that looks pretty bad on a (dark-)red background. You should change that link color to something like white.
3. Resize the 'Hot tropics in shedtalk forum' column to exact the same size as your adsense width.
4. There should be a check not to list broken/missing images so you don't see this.
5. The buttons on the top menu should be more to the right so the links are all neat aligned in the center.

Good luck

Re: readersheds.co.uk - Share your shed

thanks diederik for taking to time to comment.

iam looking to do a redesign soon(SO should fix html issues), plus doing an audit of the sheds images, so that there are no missing images displayed...

but of course my sheddies like it a bitof a mess, as it reminds them of their sheds...

cheers

wilco
