It looks like a nice design, however my initial impression is:
What is the purpose of the site? / What does it do?
There are far too many ads on the main page.

This is my first real developed site. We just launched it today. It is still very much in an alpha stage in terms of features and refinement. I am looking for any tips you might have in terms of... well... anything... monetization, design, seo, etc...
Specifically I am hoping to get some feedback on how best to spread the word for this type of site. My hope is to do a lot of 'guerrilla marketing' via social networks. It seems like the type of site that could 'go viral.' What are your thoughts?
After the Thanksgiving break, we are going shore up the code and add some more features/functionality. Right now we are using adsense and commissionjunction to serve ads.

thanks for the feedback...
I am not sure if you had ever been to hotornot.com... there you basically vote for how 'hot' someone is... this is basically the same, except that it works for couples and the user votes on who could do better.
In other words, the purpose is entertainment... your note about the ads is well taken.

I thought this was the case when i had a look round the site, however most users won't take as long.
U need something on the main page so people instantly know what the website is about.

The ads is taking away the viewers' attention on the photos.

Ben,
Many thanks. I think what I will do is make the top banner (468 x 60) instead of using the large leaderboard. In that space I'll put in a tag line that describes the site... Look at couples, vote who could do better! Something like that.
I was wondering if anyone thinks that this has the potential to 'catch fire' once the site is properly optimized. Thanks.
