There is nothing wrong with a black background as long as your foreground (font) color is bright color. Everybody has their own opinion. Some people like black color, some people don't. You can never please everybody.

If you like, you can use white or blue which are neutral color.

Not necesarily. Depends on the audience and the look and feel you want to create. Look at http://www.mtv.com/.

As with any colour background, you need strong visual content that is contrast to the background.

Re: Is it wrong to have a black background?

It really depends on the type of web site it is, for example if your selling baby furniture or baby items, a black back would be the worst to use.

On your web page rlwebsite.com, the black looks fine, what looks bad is the Google banner, you need to make that transparent, try to keep the contrast down, there are many books that teach web design with valuable tips, I strongly suggest you read some.

I find easier to read dark font on light background than light font on dark background.

Your right, so do I. But with web sites that have only pictures, I prefer a black background, like watching TV with the lights off....

    Classic!

Personally, i like a white background & everything laid over the top. All the best websites follow this imo
The only exception is adult sites where i like bold colours & being dark is fine too.
i mean, er, ahem, the Pred never visits adult sites , cough lol

Nothing wrong with any kind of background as long as what ever is on top is visible enough.
