Anyway, almost a week later the domain still sits on a Pool landing page. I have checked every imaginable whois to try and email the new owner to make an offer on it, but other than the registrar in China, there is no contact info. Shouldn't it have been updated by now? Does Pool capture and keep expiring domains for themselves? I just don't get it...

are you sure about that? I had a lot of names there, but they were all registered under pool.com. I think they are holding the names and making a fake auction from them.
