    Yes, that was a $8.75 Namewinner grab. The 'winner' sold it for $10k or so as I recall. Of course, this domain was a registrar delete, which are totally unexpected.

    Yeah I see the "RENEW THIS DOMAIN: If you are the current registrant for this domain name* and wish to continue the registration on the domain, you must immediately renew the domain to ensure the name is not deleted from your account. " notice on the Netsol lander of A1.com back in 2005. I guess the owner did not get the message. Or, maybe they died.

    Another possibility is that they got the domain on the cheap, and didn't need it anymore. Back when I used to sell domains very cheaply, I'd see many of them would wind up expired, because the owner figures "well, it only cost me a little, so it's no loss to lose it". It's quite a statement about human behavior.

    They may have originally gotton A1.com for $70.

    It's not a secret that non-expired domains are auctioned off at NJ per special agreement just because the majority of the bidders there will pony up more $$$$
