No harm done.. I'm all for education. As far as I'm concerned if you enter into a public auction the end price should be known to whomever is interested. I wouldnt toss the prices I pay all over the place, but certainly wouldnt cry about someone posting it. It isnt a private sale. A private transaction on the other hand should be kept between the two parties involved... But this is just my opinion.

    Hi

    Your opinion is most welcomed!

I got an offer for a domain on another forum, and then I posted the price I wanted for it in their chatroom.
Another member who was in the same auction where I originally bought the domain posted the price that I paid for it, so that the potential buyer, who was also in the chatroom, was able to see that price as well.

Thus exposing my potential profit margin.

These types of actions can take away your leverage, when negotiating prices.

    Re: Snapnames auction history

I don't think they need to. Do you have any idea of how much money rolls through there each day ? Although having the history of each user right in front of you.. knowing their pattern and understanding their limitations makes it pretty easy to guess what they would fall for. But staying real.. they dont need to.. they have a good thing going now, and they realy dont have much comptetion at all. I'm suprised the big investors dont gather together and move in on this action. We're looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars a day at times.. on a bad day, would you guess 50,000.00 US ?

Considering the dropping domain market is so protected by a few big wigs The prices will probably continue to drive up. Thats good for domainers, but bad for some business including site developers and regular business folk. If they had a good plan, they could easily make this public knowledge increasing interest from people in the right places either politically or in positions of power. Opening the market right up. I could see this happening. So many forums, so much indexing, so much talk on this subject. Does ICANN know they have the power to make changes ? Does ICANN make something from this ? Do people know Snapnames.com generates $50,000.00 to $200,000.00 and maybe even more every day because people didnt renew their domain names or simply because they didnt realize the value of the name they let drop due to lack of interest ?

It's becoming common knowledge, people are picking up these threads in google search, yahoo search.. all over. and even when one person see's some shocking prices, either they tell 10 more people or they get involved.

In a year from now.. I bet things will be different, but not too sure it will be in favor of the domainers out there. But you never know. I'm certainly not qualified to predict this. I do feel it will saturate though. Like every other craze thats happened. indexing will change. People will realize .com isnt the only tld..

Anyhow, back to your comment on suspecting snapnames of inside bidding.. Nah, why would they bother. Would you risk that freekin income to make an extra thousand bucks ? I wouldnt even consider it, in fact I'd kiss the floor every morning I walk into the office, then laugh uncontrollably on my drive home each day. hehehe.

    Kevin.

P.S. These are just my ramblings, If anyone takes offence, feel free to coment.. But dont bash me please.

Who cares about profit margin. If the person is interested in your name they will pay your asking price.

    I agree!

Some People will try to lowball you, but if you stand firm and they want the name, both parties come out ahead..

    Re: Snapnames auction history

    Hi there,

    For what it's worth....

I came across this thread in a search for "halvarez" when I found he was the only other person who had backordered a domain on SnapNames that I want. (If I wasn't the only person on the planet watching this domain after it expired, he would have won it by default, of course, for the small initial investment of US$60.) It's a pretty obscure, two-word domain that I want for a project that doesn't involve pay-per-click advertising. This was my first foray into SnapNames, and I wasn't prepared to pay much for the domain as I didn't want it that badly.

After reading this thread (and another from this forum that is only available in Google's cache) I was pretty sure that "halvarez" would probably be willing to out-bid me, but I put in my maximum bid and crossed my fingers. As it turns out, "halvarez" didn't place an additional bid and I won the auction for the minimum fee.

So either "halvarez" wasn't paying attention or he/she/they made an altruistic decision to let the little-guy newbie have the domain. (There are other possibilities too, of course.) If it was the latter, this is a public thank-you to "halvarez".

    Re: Snapnames auction history

I've never seen him bid. And I've seen him often. Any more from me will be simple assumption. But needless to say.. .com has hit a high point, and I havent seen any reseller (wholesale) prices at snapnames in such a long time. I havent played in that playground since last year I think. When it gets like the shopping channel, I'm out. People are bidding insane amounts for the type of names I like. For the most part I'm seeing most end prices being 1 to 2x end user pricing. Good luck if these people are reselling them. Especially on the other side of the peek.

    Great thread!

halvarez is a mysterious character I tell ya.

If it's me and him on a name, I know I've won it. I rarely see him bid but when he does, he bids pretty big, ie fortisadvantage . com.
