    Moniker Privacy

    How does privacy works?

I got an email from someone claiming to be someone from a legal department claiming to have a trademark on one of my domains. They are asking to reveal my details and transfer the domain.

Then I got an email from moniker saying that if I don't deal (reveal my details) with this email, they will reveal my details in 5 days.

This is not even a proper C and D and moniker wants to reveal my details?
So what is purpose of privacy?

I believe anyone could successfully do that by emailing them and possibly falsely claiming a TM violation (since they do not ask for evidence or investigate the complaint, as far as I know) and thus get the real owner details. I am guessing some other registrars may fo the same.

I don't think any company should not be giving out any private or personal information....of course that is unless they have legal documentation.

With all whois privacy the domain owner should THEOretically
get their own email forwarded to them. GoDaddy forwards private emails but with moniker I've seen and heard cases where the emails don't flow to you. I'm not sure if they have to switch something for that to occur as there isn't a setting in the admin screen. Maybe bari can jump on to explain how this is done. It's kind of tricky when a prospective buyer emails the privacy address and you get contacted by your registrar acting as the buyer's agent....
