Godaddy losing popularity fast as they ruin customers

Do a Google search for "GoDaddy S**ks", and the search yields 6,000 results. There are also hundreds for the more unlikely term "Godaddy Scr**ed me".

Everyone knows that Godaddy takes their customers' domain names away if they suspect that the contact information is not up-to-date. The only registrar to do this, the famous FamilyAlbum.com registrar hijacking is the most famous example. GoDaddy turned around and auctioned their customer's name to the highest bidder.

And what happens if you do update your contact info? Well, you're not allowed to transfer away your domain name for sixty days. In fact, GoDaddy has all kinds of special rules to prevent you from using your domain name as you wish, and to transfer away from GoDaddy.

I really don't care about the stupid GoDaddy Girls or publicity stunts. GoDaddy simply walks all over their customers, and the truth needs to get out about their bad practices.

I personally use dynadot, but most registrars would be much better than Godaddy.

For great domain names at rock-bottom prices, look for my username in the "Domain Auctions" section of the platinum forums.

GoDaddy does s u c k... I have had several negative experiences with them, and I would advise anyone that is interested in a registrar to look elsewhere.

I still have about 100 names there, but I am going to move them all before my next big renewal.

I see threads like this from time to time, but I've never had anything but positive experiences with GoDaddy. In fact, I'm in the process of consolidating at Godaddy. Good pricing and I've always had good support.

Compared with the 6,000 Google results for "GoDaddy s*cks", there are five (5) Google results for "Dynadot s*cks", and for good reason.

You might want to think twice before you "consolidate" your collection at GoDaddy. They will make it very difficult for you to move your domain names away once they've got them.

I didn't post this thread for some random fancy. It's because two days ago they refused to let me transfer away a domain name, claiming that I had "expressly rejected the transfer by fax or other means" (I never rejected).

Today, they informed me that since I updated my contact info associated with L'Islam (lislam.com), they have frozen the domain name for sixty days. I had already paid for the tranfer at Dynadot. Now I have to hope that in sixty days they don't invent another rejection of the transfer.

they have gone down the pan - snapnames purchased 2 of my domains that were held @ GoDaddy, did they want to release them, hell no!

the 60 day rule is a policy not a rule - they seem to release when they want to and hold when they want to. and dont get me started on backordering

I have not had any problems with GoDaddy at all since I started using them a couple years ago. It does make me wonder though why they have so many problems with others, maybe its that their so big now that things are starting to fall through the cracks.

And what makes it worse, is they have drafted in our very own DCG.

Adam, you really shouldnt have lowered yourself to their level, nor should you want any association with GoDaddy.

I am fortunately close to being free of Godaddy!!

I;m also a victim where my domain name was set expired and I wait for the last minute to renew the domain. I' was surprise that it was in auction already ... tsk

I will never put my domains to them.

Update whois information is also another to get away claiming your domain.

Well if you don't like them, just leave and everybody's happy.

$7.05 you must be talking wildwest reseller or maybe some coupon that will expire at GoDaddy, either way add a .25 cent nickle and dimer fee to it

Their domain tech support is great. Their tech support on their web Hosting isn't that good. I used to use GoDaddy for my domains but then I came across 1and1.com back when you can get a domain for $6. Now it's $7 but it's still cheaper than godaddy.

I am trying to move all my domains away from godaddy.

GD are also the only parking company that will declare the % they give. There is also a reason Go Daddy has 12M results and Dynadot has half a million - they are the biggest for a reason. Dealing with the biggest has pros and cons. If I start a bit torrent site, I'll reg it at Moniker. If I want to reg freecuba.com I'll reg it at enom - oops nevermind.

i have had no problems so far.

    EXCEPT

I dont like the way they talk down to you. If i am paying a service, i dont want a friend, i want service.

Also, STOP ASKING (or telling) US TO FILL OUT A CUSTOMER SERVICE APPRAISAL FORM.

Do they think we would take the time to rate their customer service!? If there is a complaint, ill complain. I will not say "you guys are the greatest registar". how stupid is that!?

I do like their UI for the domains.

I'd like to see the number of GoDaddy customers vs. the number of Dynadot customers.

Every company out there has people who post on the internet "(this company) sucks". Some even go far enough to purchase that keyworded domain and make a site on it. It's not the number of customers who are complaining, a company with 5,000,000 customers) will have far more complaints than someone with 10,000 (even at only a 1% unhappy rate, that is 50,000 vs. 100). Sure, the numbers look intimidating until you look at the whole picture. The larger company could keep the 1% "company sucks" ratio while the smaller company could even have a 5% "company sucks" ratio but they'll still look better by the raw numbers, even though the percentage of unhappy customers is 5X that of the larger company.

Also, notice out of the first 10 results of "GoDaddy sucks" that only two on the first page are from the past 18 months, the rest are from 2003-2006. All of these complaints have had the chance to leave GoDaddy unless they signed up for a registration time frame of more than 1 year but even then, they are all way past 60 days so they could have easily left GoDaddy years ago.

Plus, GoDaddy isn't the only one with a 60 day rule. I've bought several domains from registrars and they all held them for 60 days, even if it was registered them before I bought it (no registrar change, just an account change). It seems that several of the registrars take the ICANN 60 day rule (can't be transferred to another registrar unless it is the previous registrar in 60 days) too literally, maybe this complaint needs to go to ICANN instead of one registrar (since an account change within the same registrar is only a WhoIs change in the eyes of ICANN). In fact, I haven't had a single backorder I was able to transfer in less than 60 days (honestly, the registrars all liked to hold onto the domain for at least 65-70 days after I got it), some registrars wouldn't even let me consolidate the domains into one account with them, I had to have several accounts (all with the same information) with one or two registrars.
