Great find, just to add that it only works with .com and .net domains.
If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.
Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Wouldn't it be useful to know how many people perform a whois search on your domain? Well with GoDaddy, you can!
It took me a while to figure out, but here's how:
In GoDaddy's Domain Manager, hold your mouse over the Tools tab at the top and select Exportable Lists. Next click the Add New Export button. You will see a drop down box. Select All My Domains and click next.
Now you can select which data you want to export. There are quite a bit of options to play around with here, but what we're interested in are Whois Searches - Previous Period and Whois Searches - Current Period. Make sure those two options are checked and click Next.
The final screen lets you select file type. I recommend CSV which can be opened with Excel. I also recommend you set Select Compression to "none". Name your list and click Finish. GoDaddy will take a few minutes to compile the list and will e-mail you when it's ready. You can then download it on the Exportable Lists page mentioned above.
Kind of an unnecessarily long process but nice information to have either way. It shows both the current and previous day, week, and month's statistics.
Enjoy!
UPDATE:
I've noticed an increase in WHOIS requests for domains that are about to expire. I have a long, random domain that I know nobody did a WHOIS request for, but yet GoDaddy is showing 2 WHOIS requests. I'm assuming they are the result of automated tools that people are running on nearly-expired domains. Something to keep in mind.

One of the few things I didn't know about domaining ;-) lol. Seriously, do appreciate sharing the information. Kudos!

Great info!
Cool
Had no idea this was even there. Thanks for the info!
Does it work only for names you have in your GD account?
Thanks for this info![]()
Thanks for sharing.
very cool, now to get all the registrars to offer this.

would love to see others adopt this...moniker you watching/reading?
This is something I implemented during my 3 years at Go Daddy, it's very useful information.
This wouldn't be as powerful at Moniker, It works at Go Daddy because so many people use the Go Daddy whois tool.
Moniker and other wouldn't be able to compare to GD on this one.

Thanks for sharing, the majority of my domains are registered through GoDaddy.
Thanks for the share...
It shows numbers for com...net...org...info....biz....cc on my report

So the gotcha is that the whois query must be performed on GoDaddy's website and not remotely (from another registrar). Correct ?
NameNewsletter.com - free lists of available domain names
ZoneFiles.net (beta) - ccTLD and gTLD droplists
Thanks for getting it implemented. It's a brilliant idea and very helpful feature to identify names which are valuable based on the theory more Whois lookups are a valuation indicator. The results are mostly useful at GD with their 50% market share which may be why others like Moniker do not offer it.
That plus the Premium Name feature instantly availaible for registration are 2 powerful reasons I am thinking about moving more domains to GD.
