$18.99 backorder is really weak compared to others.

Let me guess. Their focus is on the average John Doe, domainers only make up a tiny fraction of their customer base.
NameNewsletter.com - free lists of available domain names
ZoneFiles.net (beta) - ccTLD and gTLD droplists
my guess is that their backorder business model is TDnam.
This is generating a hell of a lot more than developing a back order business.
I would say that GD is quite happy with what it is doing.
I think GoDaddy don´t want to focuss on backordering services.
Godaddy Coupons Get the latest Godaddy coupon codes. Save from 10% to 30% on each domain name.
Not sure if it is that easy. Even Netsol, the most seasoned registrar has not been able to develop a backorder service without the partnering with an existing backorder company (Clubdrop). I don't think discount registrars are interested in taking on this type of project, probbaly not enough profits to be made.
because SnapNames and NameJet have already bought up all the best registrars with direct connections to the registry. at the drop window GoDaddy gets smoked every time by the far more powerful drop catchign resources of SnapNames and NameJet.
This is why GoDaddy's drop catching service sucks so bad. you have almost no chance of catching a good name using GoDaddy's service. And with their $18.99 pre-pay model, its a complete rip off. Stick with Snapnames and NameJet.

NetSol actually is partnered with eNom on NameJet.

As a GoDaddy customer, I get the feeling that Bob Parsons is out chasing chicks while the foxes are guarding the henhouse. I wonder if Bob knows what really goes on day-to-day at Godaddy.
I think Godaddy is a great registrar, but backorders and auctions there make me a little suspicious.

i agree i just lost a backorder to a company out of the uk.
day before i was notified that they had the domain and offered me
a service ... while GoDaddy was the main registar on the domain
godaddy sent me emails saying that the domain is in pending delete
and the godaddy rep said i was the one in line, but the uk company grab it and sold to me for 250.00 because i had the net i went ahead and i and bought it .... what a waste of 18.99 for backorders..![]()
