Cheers, JayK
DBS is at A$0.69 today, up from A$0.53 only a few days ago

And went as high as $0.70. There has also been an ASX request for an explanation for the increase, which DBS have responded to. You can see their response on the ASX website, but there is nothing that the company needs to announce (i.e a pending sale or merger) that would affect the price, they put it down to positive results, increased broker awareness, the fact that companies in similar industries in the US have had share price increase and also that the stock is the subject of some comment on a day trader forum (don't know which one and if anyone does, I would be interested to see what is being said).
Anyone care to guess the nature of the impending announcement that halted trading in dbs on the asx today?

Looks that way. Photon Group Ltd bought about 20% of one of the founding shareholders shareholdings and has now issued a bid to takeover the rest at A$0.65 a share. Photon offers a range of online media solutions.

I'd agree, but it looks like others don't. Interestingly, the Australian Financial Review today says that "while the company's board will put up a fight, Shannon's sale suggests that its major shareholder doesn't think it is a cheap offer". Let's see what happens. In the meantime, if you think that DBS has a good business and you think Photon might be successful in its takeover offer, then perhaps we should all be looking at buying Photon shares!
Also, it makes you realise why a company like DBS won't be interested in selling it's own domain portfolio. Why accept anywhere between 3-8 times revenue for your domains, when you can sell the company shares for 19 times earnings!

Anyone want to help
- I think I will incorporate in Delaware
- Do a IPO with 5 million shares available for purchase.
- Hire a slick marketing company to pump my shares.
- When they .003 on the pink sheets I'll take leverage my shares to buy more "premium" domains.
- Develop a parking company.
- Sell out in 36 months.
- Leave a millionaire. ( of course I'll have to buy back in)

Here's the response from the company to the takeover offer

Thanks JayK
I don't normally read the AFR, so I was unaware of that opinion
Considering the response from DBS, does it not seem unlikely that the take over will succeed?
Leaving Shannon without the sale of 20 mil shares, and posssibly short of pocket money.
Meanwhile the price rises to 74 cents, possibly fueled by speculators.
My own confidence in the rapidly rising value of dot com domain names should preclude me from selling anything
I say should.
If I wasn't such a bloody idiot.

Thanks Joe. Who knows what will happen, but I guess the price spike indicates that people expect the Photon offer to be higher and are speculating that they will raise it. Then Mr Shannon will just sell his shares at the higher price and have an even happier Christmas!
I have to say that it really is not a suprise, and I for one expected this after the recent moves from Fabulous making themselves more attractive for a potential merger or buyout.
Very interesting info JayK, I am interested to see how it all unfolds.

Well it looks like Dean just sold the rest of his stake at $0.67 to two small cap fund managers and the share price has gone up too. A Happy Christmas for Mr Shannon, I would say!
And photon's have taken over the private group OBmedia
They seem to have deep pockets indeed
Looking forward to them raising their offer for DBS next week, hopefully right in the middle of their office Christmas party
Where are photon based, anyway?

Yup, they sure have been busy. As for DBS, it will be interesting to see what Photon do, now that a couple of other significant players have joined the pack.
