    Nameserver Deficiency?

Anyone using new DS nameservers will want to perform this test to help confirm a serious nameserver deficiency that gives away your traffic and clicks to DomainSponsor. I emailed my rep this problem yesterday afternoon, I have not heard back him and the problem is still there. I am in the process of changing my names effected by this problem back to domain forwarding which appears to be working fine. I recommend anyone else do the same if they find the same results as me.

I lost 1000 visitors to this yesterday. I'm sure some of you are losing more.

Choose 2 domains in your portfolio which have no traffic and have the DS nameservers set up on them. Make sure settings for domains are popups OFF.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Type in Domain 1 as follows:

    ww.yourdomain.com

You will see your landing page as usual however, you will also get popup. Type in any subdomain you will get the same result. DO NOT type in www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com

This visit will not be recorded in your account stats. By using a non-traffic domain the chances that a real visitor came to your site during this test are low.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Type in Domain 2 as follows:

    www.yourdomain.com

You will see your landing page as usual. No popup as per YOUR settings.

This visit will be recorded in your account stats as normal.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Since stats generally update within hours you will be able to quickly determine that you are not being credited for visits coming from subdomains other than "www" . Your visit to Domain #2 will show in your stats but your visit to Domain #1 never will.

Please perform the above test and Post your results in this thread.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

Anyone else experiencing issues with ds nameservers? I used them for a few days and hardly any stats at all, but when I switched back to url forward, the visitors began showing up again. Can someone who is using DS DNS comment?
I am curious to know if everything seems to be working ok now. I would prefer using dns vs url forward.

    Thanks

I'm having the same problem as you are Zoobar.....wish I could put more targeted ads on my parked pages too...the portal park page seems to be hurting my revenue. Anybody know if I'm missing something?

You can force optimize your domains at domainsponsor, however, you must have had at least one click to your domain name under the new system. Not sure if this is what you mean or not. In any event, you click on your portfolio and then your domain name you want to optimize and click "edit". If you do not have this function, email support and let them know you want this option. Hope this helps.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

If a user arrives at your domain with a subdomain other than www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com, the visit is not being credited to you.

examples where your account is not credited:

    ww.yourdomain.com
    wwww.yourdomain.com
    test.yourdomain.com
    whatever.yourdomain.com

I am very surprised nobody else seems to care.

This only effects domains using dsredirection servers.

Domains using proredirect properly credit your account.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

    Who says it's a bug ...

Technically, the lack of crediting for such non-standard domain requests may be within their TOS, though admittedly shady.

One sees all sorts of shady tactics in PPC programs, both mainstream and adult. While it may be helpful / feel good to complain about crediting issues to a particular sponsor program, one does better to instead spend much of their time looking at the bottom line, and optimizing / moving traffic around accordingly.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

DS is one of the most trustworthy PPC companies around, imho. Technical bugs or human errors do occur from time to time. As this issue does not affect those using the old Proredirect nameservers, I do believe it is an honest mistake on the part of DS. I've just dropped them an email on this matter. Hope this bug will be fixed soon.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

Zoobar says he already emailed DomainSponsor (revenue.net) ... that was at least 3 weeks ago already now, since he posted this thread back on Oct-14th. So it's very likely they are well aware of the problem by now.

The fundamental problem with sponsor programs is they only have minimal incentive to proactively debug and troubleshoot tracking problems ...

Yes, many sponsors are more than happy to fix problems when enough complain, but very few truly go out of their way to find and fix such problems on their own without much prodding; less tracking = more revenue.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

I change 5 domains about a week ago, and I just came back vacation and saw this thread, so I decided to check those domains. I made a quick check, and don't see any markable differences in those domains as of yet. In any case I would like to here more about this. I have had only positive experiences with DS, including their customer service. It seems odd that they haven't responded as of yet.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

I made a test and can confirm this. It can not be traced for most of domains, it shaves-out less than 1% of traffic (people mistype wwww.domain.com or ww.domain.com). But for all traffic on DS it can make nice income.

Also some domains has biggest traffic at subdomain.domain.com so someone who does not know this can have huge traffic domain and not know about it.

    Re: Nameserver Deficiency?

If you have popups off you can easily see the problem has not been corrected.

Type in ww.yourdomain.com instead of www.yourdomain.com
You will get popups on the "ww"

According to DS support, this is a known issue to them, and their tech are currently working on it, it should be resolved by next week.
