Thumbs down Afternic are completely pathetic!

    Congratulations! You've just met the
reserve price (or sale price) and the
domain is now yours. But not at Afternic...

Use this company to buy the name you
want, and you could well end up with a
v.nasty surprise just like I did.

According to Afternic, I had made an offer
on a name that exceeded the 'reserve'; the
seller was then legally obliged to sell the
name to me if no higher offers were received.
Unfortunately 'though, the seller (a well
known registrar) decided to withdraw this
domain part way through the auction and did
not want to give a reason for doing this.

Now if that is not disgusting enough (reneging
on a legally binding contract) Afternic now
decides to act as accomplice to the seller
by saying they can't or won't do anything
    about it!

It gets worse... Afternic's own policy (according
to its company agents, who post on this forum)
is to 'ban' sellers who renege on a sale and release
their full contact details so the matter may be
    taken further.

    No such thing has ever happened with me 'though;
I specifically asked for these details, but after
the following comment (from Michael Collins, VP of
Marketing for Afternic) my emails were (and are)
    repeatedly ignored.

The following, is his last comment to me (dated
    30/05/06):

"Ms. Scarborough works for me and forwarded your
    email to me.

I am not sure what you consider to be a satisfactory
result. For reasons beyond our control, the domain is
no longer for sale on Afternic."

Avoid this company at all costs; you really don't
want to be in my position when this happens to you.

    Regards

    Re: Afternic are completely pathetic!

Companies on the web are above laws and rarely respect their own TOS. If you had spare funds to spend, you could easily sue this registrar and Afternic for breach of contract, but i guess the domain is not worth it. Sorry to hear this, but am not even surprised.
