No, Microsoft has not declared war on domain parking; Microsoft has declared war on Google.

I think Microsoft has realized that it will be very difficult for MSN to be as popular as Google is, so they are doing this as a form of asymmetrical warfare.

Also, Microsoft Word considers Google to be a spelling error.

very true. They are not against domainers but against google. if they are against people, they face severe consiquences.

Re: Has Microsoft declared war on domain parking?

I did not wade though all that Microsoft has to say about some of the Disney typo parked pages displaying PPC links to pornography sites, but it appears that Microsoft does not mention some of the technical reasons for why this could be happening.

Here is some text from a SearchEngineWatch article from 2001:
“After Infoseek released a new version of its ranking algorithm dubbed ESP in May 1998, some users were surprised to discover the Disney web site coming to the top of Infoseek's results in response to some porn terms. What happened?”

“Infoseek had started making more use of link analysis, and as it turns out, many porn sites ask users to click on a "Yes" link to verify they are over 18 before admitting them further into the site. As a joke, those who click on the "No" link might be sent to a site like Disney. As a result, the proximity of Disney's hyperlink on pages also containing porn terms helped make the Disney site relevant for those terms.”

So, I do not think that Microsoft is telling the full story.

These are exciting times with Microsoft entering the PPC arena with MSN AdCenter in July.

I look forward to getting an AdCenter account along with Yahoo. Maybe once the competition heats up we'll start making higher percentages of the profit.

Re: Has Microsoft declared war on domain parking?

I have spent the last 3 days going through that site and I totally agree with March2005, this is a collateral attack on google.

Pretty sad really that Microsft are resorting to such methods, and a tad childish.

I would hate to think that this sort of clandestine attacks would be sanctioned from the "Cheeses" at Redmond.

Guess this is just another case of Microsoft "Throwing their toys out the pram"

I think it is about time someone tried to challenge Google. They have their hand in too many pies for my taste. I rely on them less and less all the time. If I could get a yahoo ppc account I'd drop adsense completely.

I hope Microsoft goes in and raises a little hell!

It is. The correct spelling of the word is "googol".

Re: Has Microsoft declared war on domain parking?

whether Microsoft has declared war on google or not they too have their share of problems especially with the pending antitrust case charged by the European Commision in Brussels..they stand to pay fine of up to Euros 2 million daily if they lose that case. They lost in their case against Novell demanding that they disclose evidence being held by the european commission. Microsoft really deserve some pity at least with regard to this...
