    lack of transparency, much?

this morning i got to thinking, and i thought to myself, "self, why does it seem that 9 out of every 10 clicks we get is for 5 cents? it sure is a round little number (sort of) but what is so magical about it, what with all the different domains we have with all the very different keywords in them that the overwhelming majority of visitors seem to click those particular ads that pay out at exactly this number?"

well to myself i replied, "yes, although of those 90% you speak there are in fact a few at .04 and .06, and perhaps a few at .07 and .08, I verily see your point. the situation is befuddling since we seem to read so many forum posts by those claiming ppc in excess of $1, $2, even $3 per click."

"self, would it not be good if we knew exactly which keyword ads our visitors were clicking on? we should like to know since then we could ascertain why even legal, medical, real-estate, and financial domains which we had thought might pay well are not earning well for us."

"self, now another thing has occurred to us. should we not also be privy to how much each click pays overall and what was our cut? Is there some sort of proprietary algorithm that needs protecting? self, the more we are starting to think, the more we are starting to wonder ... "

don't think and don't wonder. develop your names. forget transparency. parking companies will continue to milk your earnings. i park most of my names but i don't wonder. i just know. when i have the time and resources to develop my names i just do it.

I have noticed there seem to be less of these claims lately...but I also continually remind myself not to believe everything you read, especially when its anonymous.

If you are looking for a potential serious/tangible gain in three years by developing, then please PM me. IMHO parking is not the way to riches, and you need to take action now.

I agree that the way to change this is by developing. Choose one name from your portfolio and try developing it. Give it three months and see if you are earning more on that name with it having been developed than you were parking it. If you are then calculate the percentage profit that developed domain has made you as a percentage of developing and Hosting. The chances are that you are earning more than if you had your money in the bank. Keep the site fresh and by the end of the first year you 'should' have made enough to cover reknewal fees and at least be well on the way to covering development and hosting costs.

Simple answer, but not always the easiest to carry out.

hehe, just got back from work, sorry but i guess i thought i woke up with a sense of humor this morning or something. well, thanks for the replies, and i do agree with you all about developing, which i have been slowly moving up the throttle on. still, why shouldnt parking companies be more transparent? maybe they are afraid it will hurt their bottom line to have to really compete with eachother?

I cannot argue with the "developing" advice but...
PPC maybe isn't right for all names but I've retired from my day job from it and earn a nice living.
FYI, I earn $2, 3, 4 and more from clicks every day.

A couple from today, Sunday, 1/27
    pokerriva.org: 2 1 1 0 0 $6.87
    californiaberkeley.com 7 2 1 0 0 $3.37
    usdeptofeducation.net 14 4 2 0 0 $2.99

I agree about the "lack of transparency" from the parking companies but I trust the companies I deal with. Fabulous & Parked have been terrific for me. All I do is register names & they do all the work - Setting up the landing pages, finding the advertisers that pay & sharing the revenue.
    Pretty sweet.
    Just a vote of confidence.

Why really is so important to know how much $ per click each domain do or which ads are clicked ?? scammers will start clicking on high paying ads much easier if a PCC shows this information.

I would like to see a PPC displaying the actual amount is getting from the upstream provider and at the end of the month do a simple calc :
Your Portfolio made: $5000 - 20% for us = this amount you will get paid.

But why noone is doing this ???? thing of it..

Michael Gilmour of WhizbangsBlog had this to say at the recent T.R.A.F.F.I.C conference in Vegas:

    (excerpted from DNJournal)
Gilmour said many advertisers are currently reluctant to spend in the PPC space because there are no standards and little insight into what is now a very arcane process. He said domain owners are also getting disenchanted with parking as a form of monetization. He cited a survey asking domain owners why they were moving to or considering moving to different business models. 23% said they would leave because of lack of transparency, 13.5% said they did not trust their parking company and the same percentage cited wildly fluctuating earnings per click. Gilmour pointed out that it is in the PPC companies' own best interests to embrace standards and transparency if they want to keep their customer base.
i guess i get a vindicative kick out of reading that from a high profile domainer.

GoDaddy is the only one I know of that says what our cut is. 60% or 80% - depending on what plan you're on. Recently a lot of people have been compaining that the amount per click is going down.

Or is it our "cut" that keeps dropping?
