    note.com US$1,000

This is my first post here (and it cost me US$51), and even though I've read the rules and stickies, I apologize in advance if I've inadvertantly offended someone. I'm still learning the domain language; even though I've been living in the dot-com world for over a decade, I've never worked in the speculative arena.

Fractional shares of note.com premium domain available for very limited time

OK; here's the deal: This past week, I signed a contract
with Moniker to sell the premium domain note.com, at either
their January or March auction, with the latter being far more
likely. (January is a specialty event, concentrating primarily
on the adult market end of things. note.com isn't exactly XXX.)

Moniker offered an appraisal value of $227,000:
    http://David.Beroff.com/img/note.com...sal.061217.doc

I've now spoken with a few people who also agree that the
$200k range is a reasonable current expectation for a sale
    value at auction.

I'm going to be working with Moniker to identify multiple
"end user" potential buyers, who would presumably be
willing to bid far higher than the "domainer" (speculator)
population. The idea is that by March, once we are able
to get a few of these companies interested, (e.g., those
that might want to grow their online music businesses),
the value would ideally grow *far* larger than $200k at
    that auction.

Right now, I have an associate (with whom I've worked for a
few years) who offered me $100k straight out. My concern
there is that he jumped from an initial $20k offer, to $50k,
to $100k, all within a few hours, and thus, I'd be foolish to
sell it to him at that level, if he's so eager to buy there.

Still, I need to do *something* quickly, and so here's what
I'm going to do: I will sell ten one-percent shares in the
domain (not the company) note.com to the first ten people to
email me a scanned check (made to my firm, note.com LLC)
drawn on a US bank for $1,000. Of course, people can buy
multiple shares, or even offer a higher price if desired.

Once I sell the domain, I would then buy each of those shares
at 1% of the *net* purchase price. i.e., I'd have to subtract
Moniker's brokerage fee and any other expenses (if any).

*Strictly* as an example, if we sold the domain at the March
auction for $200k, and if Moniker were to take a 20% fee,
(I technically can't reveal the terms of our contract, so that's
only a... guess), then the net price would be $160k, and
I'd send each share-holder $1,600 for their investment
(once my own funds clear, of course). That 60% growth in
three months works out to something north of 500% APY.

That is *only* an example, and can't be taken as a promise
of anything. The value of the shares could increase, or they
could even decrease. There'd be very low liquidity, as there's
not really much of a market for this. All standard disclaimers
obviously hold, and basically, this investment carries a risk.

Of course, it could also prove to be very lucrative for you.

Furthermore, this new group of fractional share-holders will
have the opportunity to brainstorm on potential vertical markets
and specific buyers who would be likely to purchase the
domain at higher levels. I would then work with Moniker to
contact the companies appropriately, and the process would
presumably result in an even greater value.

    Thank you for your interest!

Why? (I've stared at this interface for an hour, trying to ensure that I got everything right.)

I just figured out how to change my country from Abu Dhabi; that sure wasn't trivial!

What if the domain doesn't sell at the auction? What will the reserve price be?

Then each share-holder would suffer a slight loss. That's the nature of a speculative investment; one risks loss as well as gain.

I don't intend on settling so low, though. I already have a $100k offer, which I am declining.

I'll reply to Creature, as his/her question was asked before the moderator request, but from this point forward, please keep the discussion by PM or email, in order to keep this marketplace a fair one (as per the moderator request).

I've been discussing with Moniker what a reasonable reserve price should be. We're going to be pursuing various specific end-user buyers, e.g., Berkshire Hathaway currently owns note.net, so I don't anticipate selling to a speculator.

I simply do not understand why r u doing this? It seems you are going to sell top quality domain for a xxx.xxx price and what is the point of funding $10k????? Why do you need such investment? Smells a bit fishy, don't you think?

    Re: note.com US$1,000

To answer both namewaiter and 1john2004, my business is having financial difficulties, and we need to raise some short-term cash, but there's no need to sell the entire domain for so low a price. It's going to take a few months to work with several potential buyers, at which point we'll sell at a fair price at auction. Unfortunately, we simply can't wait that long to get out of our current situation, and so thus, my post.

Now, biggedon (the Moderator) has politely asked me to please encourage everyone to contact me offlist, either through PM or email, out of fairness to the other people selling their domains. Please do so.

S/he has also asked me to post the progress of this sale, so in that interest, we have now sold two units, and thus there are eight remaining.

    Re: note.com US$1,000

Why don't you try www.digipawn.com - They may be ideal for your needs ??

    Check it out

"We buy and sell domain names. We loan money on domains. In fact, DigiPawn was the first company to loan money to individuals and companies that want to use domains as collateral and no one has advanced cash more than we have.

DigiPawn, Inc. is an intellectual property pawn shop. We loan money on domains, websites, content rights and other IP rights like patents and trademarks but active websites and domains make up the bulk of our business.

The best part is YOU continue to use your domain or other digital asset throughout the period of the advance. You can continue to grow and develop your business while still getting access to the quick cash you need "

    Just a thought !

    Re: note.com US$1,000

There is no way for me to prove anything, Simon. It's true that I am new here; my friends recommended that I post here, but I never sold a domain for more than $5k before. You can certainly Google for me, but that also doesn't prove anything. If you are not comfortable in doing business with me, I recommend that you don't.

Yes, DigiPawn was mentioned to me, as was DomainCapital. I might look into one of their services, but my personal credit isn't ideal, and I'm sure that they consider that. I feel more comfortable with an outright sale, rather than going into debt. Thanks, though, Gaz!

I don't set policy here, Zojila; I just "got here". If you have 2k, why not just sell some? It'd seem far easier. I really only have the one domain, so this is an avenue that seemed to make sense for me.

Again, folks, please respect the Moderator's wishes that such discussion go private, out of fairness. Thank you!

I don't believe this thread belongs here at all as this is "fixed price Forum".

What he is trying to do is to borrow money and using the domain name as collateral.

I normally don't stick my nose into some one else business but this is just a waste of time as who would have the gut to spare 1K to take a chance.

Be prepared to draw contracts with specific terms and conditions and undersigned by a law office. Anything less than that can bring you lots of legal woes.
