I guess most of us only care about Georgia if Russia invades it. But I think this is worthy news. Vera Kobalia, a 28yr old graduate of BCIT, was made Minister of the Economy and Sustainable Development in Georgia.

Either she is brilliant or Mikhail Sakaashvilli (like Silvio Berlusconi and some leaders around the world) would rather have a young woman with almost no relevant work experience thrust into a serious position of responsibility. I don't know the state of Georgia's economy. But I suspect like most of the world including Russia it is concerned about economic recovery or perhaps economic growth.

I remember John McCain saying back in 2008 during the heat of his presidential campaign that he didn't understand the economy. And people thought he can't be good. "He doesn't understand the economy". No one ever understands the economy. Not Alan Greenspan or even those economic professors and PhD holders. They can all give great information and forecasts but understanding how the economy works is a different ball game.

But I digress. Is 28 too young to be in charge of commerce or the economy? Or is Mikhail hoping the 18-30 demographic will have someone to listen to during his term?
