You could access the internet if you got your hands on an old fashioned dial-up modem and called French ISP FDN on (+33) 1 72 89 01 50. Username/password toto/toto. They actually opened this "free" dialup line to help Egyptians bypass the internet blockage.

So, what are the odds that hell will break loose any time soon? That Mubarak seems like a stubborn guy.

Some news sources are reporting that the people don't want the opposition leader in charge either - that he had nothing to do with this (despite him trying to make it seem like it was him). How true is this?

How are things over in Egypt? I'm glad they lifted the ban, hopefully it is permanant.

BTW - don't think you're alone. I have a friend in Vietnam and that government will block the internet several times a month for no apparent reason (flexing muscles?).

I wonder why he returned the internet. Does he think that, that will calm down? Gee, will the Moslim Brotherhood be taking over?

    answering your questions

mubarak is insisting on giving us the same choices

    1. his dictatorship and corruption 2. radical islamists taking over or 3. country unrest with possible conflicts and wars

    We refuse all these choices

Muslim brotherhood cannot win fair elections with peaceful transition of power, they are not liked by christians and many liberal muslims who are majority

Muslim brotherhood can take over only during unrest with sudden falling of regime

Mubarak is threatening us with the unrest and conflicts and threatening the west with radical islam , making himself the only sheild against radical islam and unrest

Mubarak is the greatest world dictator ever, he is really unbelievable

Americans cannot understand and they will never imagine what he is doing to his people with absolute authority, my language cannot help me to explain everything to you

Sad but true (as well with many other nations, not just America). Most people here complain about things that are insignificant when you look at it from a world's perspective.

God help us when we start exploring the universe (in a large scale) and start encountering other civilizations.

I will try to explain what is happening today during demonstrations

you are suddenly seeing protestors supporting mubarak and fighting antigoveronment protestors

where have been those protestors days ago!

Mubarak ordered coptic leaders and some muslim leaders to send followers ( who are politically uneducated ) to protest, it is not a friendly order

Oil companies have been ordered to send workers to protest for mubarak otherwise they will be fired !

I guess he will try to prepare a safe place for himself and delivering power if he will do to one of his allies

    what a life!

msnbc.com is broadcasting live feeds of the total chaos and riots in Cairo.

Earlier, not quite nightfall, there were youths on top of the buildings throwing gas bombs onto the crowd. There are literally thousands of people on both sides hurling rocks at each other.

Now the feed seems to be Reuters people locking themselves in hotel room providing the feed. They have a limited vantage and view point vs. the earlier feeds. Still thousands of pro and anti government demonstrators hurling rocks, gas bombs, and you can occasionally here gun fire.

Quite a horrific scene, no one in control and no one capable of controlling either side of the crowd. There is literally a tank in the street. I have seen one person on one side of the tank throwing rocks at the person on the other side of the tank, and vice versa. I am not sure if the tank is occupied. If so, that is the safest place for the soldiers at the moment.

Interesting. Thank you for the view from inside. So there is at least a chance for a true representative government then, even if small? Would the liberal muslims & coptics cooperate in repelling the radicals if they attempt to forcibly seize power?

Here's wishing you well in Egypt Gee. May your country find peace soon.

Obama's speech sounded hopeful yesterday. He spoke of working hard to ease the transition along and encouraged Mubarak to include all political parties in forming a new government and electoral process.

Do you think Obama's words will match his actions? :

In case you haven't had access to much news lately, the ripples in Egypt are being felt around the world:

    Yemen, Syria, Jordan crises

Yemen president signals won't stay beyond 2013

Broadcaster gives American outlet to Al-Jazeera

What is happening now in Egypt is huge and world changing.

Yes indeed. The times they are a changin....

The times they are a changing....

Best wishes to all in Egypt. Take care Gee...

    Gee, good luck.

Scenes being seen here in the west are bad for Mubarak. Generally newsfeeds have 'paid' protestors (either paid with money or food or 'enticed under duress') coming on to the streets in organised mobs suporting Mubarak with 'sign written' placards (hardly likely to appear in a spontaneous demonstration). Mubarak has lost the support of the public in the west.

It doesn't seem clear which side the military is taking - could we be looking at a possible coup d'etat in Egypt? If not, we could be looking at another Tiennemens (sp?) Square.

That would lead to civil war in Egypt which won't be pretty. Too much history is in that country that could be destroyed. Just look at what the Taliban did.

Good luck, Gee and stay safe.

The king of Jordan dissolved the government and promised to build a new one.

There is strong suspicion that MOST of the people appearing to be civilians on the PRO Mubarak side are in fact the military. They are not only the military but government workers who will not have a job should Mubarak get ousted.

It is strongly suspected that widespread chaos is WANTED by Mubarak backers so in the end it will be the military that comes in and restores civility and peace.

Suspicions are this is precisely what Mubarak and his backers wanted...chaos and then saving the masses.

I saw on CNN (and heard from many Reuters people, Anderson Cooper, and several other credible news anchors) that the hope of the PRO Mubarak backers is President Obama and other world leaders will come out and strongly condemn the violence and say (or plead) with the Egytian government (Mubarak) to send in the military to stop the chaos, civil unrest, and chaos.
