Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Lately there's been a ton of anti-USA feelings in the world. Here's something they should all take a look at:
The drills and equipment that is currently being used to help the trapped Chilean miners is owned by an American company and American workers are the ones operating it alongside the Chilean mining company.
They had the equipment there within 48 hours (pretty quick for international). They did it for free.
The escape capsule was designed by a NASA engineer and was built by NASA. NASA doctors also worked alongside the trapped miners and mining company to help them survive with advice and tactics.
Several Americans are on the scene working day and night and have been since (close to) the beginning to help the miners while many others are working in this country to do their part.
The sad thing is that by the end of the year this will be forgotten and much of the world will turn back to it's anti-American days (if it even left there).

Those nasty wars don't help.
500,000 BC really is a fitting name.
The USA is like the new kid in class. He is a smart thinker who sometimes resorts to unorthodox ways of solving classroom problems. Sometimes he can't solve a problem and wouldn't heed advice. Now in this class the remainder of the kids (except 1) fall into 3 categories:
I. Kids who understand that if the new kid can't solve a problem there is no need for the him to act like he can. They are more concerned that he may make the problem worse. (Most of Europe, Canada)
II. Kids who really don't care how the new kid goes about solving the problem, just as long as he doesn't step on their toes. (Russia, Iran, N. Korea, Venezuela)
III. Kids who clamor behind the new kid with the hope that when he solves the problem they will benefit. (Too many countries to name)
The new kid finds it difficult to forge friendships in this environment. He is very much in doubt of loyalties. He likes the first category a lot, but fears he will not have their support if he acts unilaterally. He keeps a watchful eye on the second category. He never knows with certainty whether they plan for or against him. As for the third category he figured out that they like him as long as they can benefit from his actions. The level of dislike for the new kid depends on the category. Some dislikes are extreme. Other dislikes are only temporary.
There is one kid left in the class who doesn't fit into any category: Britain. This kid actually fought with the new kid on his first day of class. The new kid fired up after having defeated the once strongest kid, believes he knows how to police the class if problems arise. The new kid has become the strongest kid but not the smartest. The kid who brawled with the new kid is now the smartest. He has had one to many fights and will rather let go of the strongest kid mantle. The smartest kid appreciates that he is no longer a primary target. He understands the classroom well enough to stay out of arguments.
I just wanna make sure we talk about the sale country: Chile.
Yes, US guys helped to rescue 32 miners. Bravo!
But millions in Latin America remember that it was US behind the assassination of Chile Prez Allende. And installment of our crony, the Nazi General Pinochet.
And thousands of young kids, same age as DN members, were killed in silence, with US support. And millions folks in Chile suffered for 30 years at the hands General Pinochet.
Draggar, my friend, go wash your mouth with soap.
wash his mouth out with soap? Are you serious? Have you stopped to consider all of the countries that think its okay to make their wives or children slaves? Or who beat their families or kill them if they are not obedient? What about these countries that train their kids from birth to become suicide bombers, to destroy the lives of thousands, countries that should not even be allowed to be countries because they are insane.
The US has made mistakes and have stuck their nose were it doesn't belong at times but we have from the beginning of time spent billions in hopes to help those who really need it. When disaster strikes in these poor countries or even the richer ones we are always one of the first to respond with money, food, and service. To label a country based on the mistakes or wrong doing of a few is very naive.
I believe that many things that our country has done should have been differently or not at all but its happened and time to move on. Those who like to hate on the US focus only on the things that have been done wrong or the things they don't agree with. They never take time to notice the good things our country has done and honestly I really don't care who likes us. It never fails countries declare their hatred for us but as soon as they are in trouble they are begging to be helped.

You say: small mistakes.
Killing a liberal president who was democratically elected by a landslide is not a small mistake. Not in my book.
Your right there, how can anyone expect to remember this when they cant even remember the invasion of Normandy or ending the Cold War?
It does'nt matter what good the US does, their will always be Anti-US sentiment out there, Either from someone in Europe who despises our Freedoms and Liberties because they don't have it, or someone living in a 3rd World hell hole where pummeling Women to death with stones and raping little Children is the norm.

Raider are you solely crediting America for ending the cold war? The person who deserves primary credit before anyone else is Mikhail Gorbachev. He had a humble background has a child and he was able to recognize that his country was heading down the wrong path. Mikhail had no desire to pursue nuclear arms in the name of strengthening the USSR. I wonder what it must have been like standing up to all those hardliners, many of whom would like Russia to return to its 'glory" days as a world super power. If not for Mikhail, God alone knows what would have become of that Cold War era.
There were other forces that led to end of the Cold War, not least of which was the desire to live in a non-communist nation. University students and civilians who believed in capitalism had a major part to play in ending the Cold War. And they could be found in Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. The other reality was Russia had driven its economy into a quagmire. The US and its allies also played their part. All these factors culminated in the end of the Cold War. You can't credit Reagan alone for the fall of the USSR.
I have to agree with dn-101 that there are no small mistakes when it comes to foreign affairs. I think it is at this point that a distinction has to be made between the US government and the American people. The American people are a kindhearted bunch who are always willing to help, even though most of them can't be bothered about the world beyond their border. The US government like any other government has its agenda when it comes to foreign policy. Some of those policies lead to a wrong end. I think anti-US sentiments stem from the belief that the American people let their government carry out questionable foreign policies. When Bush won the elections in '04, the consensus among the international community was: "How could they re-elect him? Are they blind? The man has no comprehension of foreign affairs."
There is a direct link between anti-US sentiment and the likability of the US commander in chief. Sadly, anti-US sentiments reached their peak during the Bush years.
