Leave it the environmentalist's to point the blame to our cars not being fuel efficient enough, I think the problem goes a lot further than that.... The auto market is taking a heavy beating for obvious reasons, low car sales, But is it really all about fuel? This is not the first time American Auto makers have suffered, they suffer almost every time the economy is in a slump.. More so now that the auto industry is so oversaturated... Another problem is shipping auto manufacturing overseas, the big 3 are building plants overseas while foreign auto makers are building plants here, and our Government is giving BIG tax giveaways to foreign auto makers to do it, Good example is a 400 MIllion dollar tax giveaway to KIA to build a plant in Georgia.

I just think the enviromental angle could be a way they can once again become competitive in the market. There is a reason why Honda, Nissan, ect are doing great while Chev, Ford, Chrys are on their way to becoming extinct. I don't know why they don't attempt to copy not only their designs but they way they operate their factories. They are obviously doing something very right while american automakers are doing something very wrong.

Raider they took a beating on all gas hog autos, their high milage autos are selling great right now. The problem is they was setup to make gas hogs, now it takes time to retool and cost money that why there is in so much trouble.

They really do need help to retool, it's not only good for them but for buyers as well. They have green autos researched and plans, but no money to retool to build them though. The way it is right now, import autos sell good here. But after they retool and start making very high milage autos.

They will be able to export them as well, and prices of the goods will come way down. As the more they make and sell, the faster and cheaper they can sell them. Right now the tech for high mile autos is higher in price, but after they retool they can turn them out much cheaper.

The good news is we wil not be forced to junk our gas hog's, they will be able to sell upgrade kits to fit our older low miles autos. Yes they got kits now, but them kits are not made for each model autos and people like my self. Want kits we know will work right with our autos, and if some thing goes wrong and breaks.

That they can be fixed with standard parts, and not be left sitting and waiting to order new parts from some place. Or worst yet the went out of selling the kits, and you can't get parts to fix the system at all. So we need kits that can be fixed if were miles from home, and it breaks down and need to be repaired.

You pay a lot more too for those high mileage cars Tas, they say that it takes 5 years of owning the car BEFORE you actually start saving money, Prices of those Gas hogs are coming way down too... We just bought a used 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer at a great price, $8700 with less than 30K miles on it, Great shape too!, I love the car and it gets decent mileage, about 18mpg on the hwy... The car is WAY better than the Isuzu I had, what a piece of JUNK that was, Never will I drive a Japanese car again.

With hybrid technology still fairly new, I think it's better to wait for the technology to improve and prices to drop... Just my opinion.
