Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world
Engineers have performed their magic once again. The world is not going to run short of energy as soon as feared.
America is not going to bleed its wealth importing fuel. Russia's grip on Europe's gas will weaken. Improvident Britain may avoid paralysing blackouts by mid-decade after all.
The World Gas Conference in Buenos Aires last week was one of those events that shatter assumptions. Advances in technology for extracting gas from shale and methane beds have quickened dramatically, altering the global balance of energy faster than almost anybody expected.
Tony Hayward, BP's chief executive, said proven natural gas reserves around the world have risen to 1.2 trillion barrels of oil equivalent, enough for 60 years' supply – and rising fast.

This does nothing for cars. Sure you can convert your cars to natural gas but its pretty hard on the engine and not very practical.
Where did you get that from. I was under the impression, that it's better for cars, and much better for the environment, and saves money as well. This does nothing for cars. Sure you can convert your cars to natural gas but its pretty hard on the engine and not very practical.

Perhaps you're confusing natural gas with ethanol? Natural gas is not corrosive like ethanol and actually burns cleaner than gasoline. Consequently it's actually easier on vehicles. And it's often used in high-mileage fleets due the lower costs. The fuel cost is somewhere in the rough vicinity of $.75 per gallon of gasoline (disclaimer: back of napkin calculation). The biggest hurdle is distribution. Never the less this is a trivial issue if we can get big oil out of the way and just put our minds to it.

Perhaps you are right. Even still, its not very cost effective unless you are putting it on a new car. 2500-3500 to convert, and don't forget it will add something like up to 500 pounds in weight to your car. I'm also unsure but would expect there to be same dangers carrying around a huge tank of compressed gas as well. You might have troubles filling up, unless everyone else starts coverting as well and demand goes up.
Correct on conversion costs but could be lower if done en scale. EPA-certified conversion kits are only available for a few vehicles (mostly pickup trucks and buses) however this would quickly change with demand. There would be additional weight if you convert to run dual fuels (my preference) because of a second tank. However, weight shouldn't be anywhere near that high unless you're keeping both tanks full. And much safer than gasoline; has a higher combustion temperature and rapidly dissipates if spilled (unlike gasoline that can linger at the scene of an accident). Fuel tanks themselves are literally bulletproof and use fail-safe valves to empty well in advance of combustion temperatures.
Here's an interesting article:
http://gas2.org/2008/04/29/natural-g...f-the-country/
While the national average price of gasoline is now $3.60, some residents of Utah are happily filling up on compressed natural gas (CNG) at $0.63 per gallon. That’s the country’s lowest price for CNG, which has understandably caused a surge in demand for vehicles running on a fuel that one man described as “practically free.”

Tesla built a car in the early 1900's that ran on free energy. We built cars that ran on hydrogen at over 120 MPH that raced around the race track at over 110 MPH in front of thousands of people over 50 years ago. Oil is bullshit. We have free pollution free energy and have since 1902. If you don't believe it, you are either delusional or simply just have not studied it good people. Most die via our wonderful secret service (who I think is a piece of fuking shit), (made to look like suicide or and accident) when they introduce other alternative energies. Death from the CIA murdering me don't scare me at all. I know I am an eternal spiritual being so death don't scare me at all. The CIA can kiss my fuking ass and murder me for talking, but I simply don't give a rats ass and they don't scare me none!!! I will talk all I want and tell the world the proven truths! I have a message for the CIA. **** YOU.

You misconstrued me good Sir. Nothing was directed towards you. You have a good point and I concur. I was just pointing out that we could pass oil and run on free energy if we wanted to. But free energy there is no money for the powers that be and they are not going to let it happen as long as they can kill inventors and promoters and make humans disappear that promulgate it. Zero point energy was open information for years at a few colleges. I dunno if they pulled it off the net yet, but for years it openly admitted and taught in California colleges. We invented cars that ran on water years ago and I can prove it. I used to write articles about this great invention several years back. Gee guess what? All the inventors and promoters died and disappeared mysteriously. So did the fuking patent. Our god damn secret government killed them all again. We cannot hurt big oil companies.
