Looking at the new Verizon Droid or the Sprint HTC Hero, both using the Android platform.
Anyone using the Android Platform???
Oh, glad you brought this up. I'm interested as well. I guess somehow you're connecting the topic to .mobi, which makes it controversial enough to be in the political section.
I am connecting this to my interest in simply buying a new phone.
Not everything has to do with dot mobee, bush, o-bama.
Just because it is in controversial? Where else to put it??? Does not seem to be an adequate section just from requests for information side of things.
I've been looking a iPhone, sprint HTC Hero, Verizon Eris (Both on Android 1.5) and the new droid (also from Verizon).
The droid 1.5 is SUPPOSED to get an upgrade to 2.0 but no one knows when or if this is just a sales pitch to sell earlier models.
I like sprint, so-so verizon, and not much at all with AT&T. Verizon - Unless you buy the droid, all other phones you pay for data fees, etc.
These all in plans can be a killer. I have Helio (Virgin Mobile) which are reasonably priced.
Bundles are where its at and those still charging individually for different services are behind the eight ball. The phone itself is one thing. But the plan and service behind it is the driving factor. IF that sucks, then the most expensive or the cheapest plan is throwing money away.
When I told my brother I'm using Windows mobile, he replied that he feels sorry for me. He only uses IPhone, Ipod Apple-Mac products. I can't afford to get those expensive name brand gadgets. I saw some cell-phone bargains using Android, so I was interested in knowing if the OS is better then Windows, and how it relates to the other OS's.
If Apple would put the iPhone on another carrier than AT&T I would be very inclined to go with Apple. Apple products have the most loyal cult following than most other electronics.
This Verizon Droid looks awesome and offers some great features. Apps charged by the iTunes (iPhone) store are free on the Droid Platforms.
Oh, I have an HTC using Windows Mobile, nice to hear they're using Android. They're very affordable.I have ordered the new HTC HD2
Has anyone heard of MTK? It's a mobile platform-OS. There is a phone with it that has a feature I would like.
Thanks. I actually just read similar reviews so you are right on time. Plus, there is no definitive answer from any one that, yes, the android 1.5 will be upgraded to the 2.0.
So I think I will just wait a while and watch for new releases and for prices to come down.
If you prefer sprint have you considered the Pre? I test drove the Hero and the Pre and ultimately decided on the Pre. Its hands down my most satisfying tech purchase to date. Pre has the fastest rendering browser out there and is basically a full web experience - it also has multitouch which is not enabled on US Droids.
I have a feeling my next upgrade will be to an Android phone, but I just don't feel like the OS is there yet.
that is what I am thinking about holding out for.
It is not a matter I need to decide something right now. I am not obligated by contract with anyone. Wife and I have the Helio Ocean - great phones - and our current provider is Virgin Mobile/Sprint - fantastic clarity and service.
What ever I decide on has to beat those qualifications - great product and great service.
Woo hoo!

Apple Readies 'World Mode' iPhone, Report Says

A new report from OTR Global says Apple plans to release a UMTS/CDMA hybrid iPhone in the third quarter of 2010. If true, the new iPhone will play nice with Verizon's network and spell an end to AT&T's exclusivity contract in the U.S. -- which is already slated to end sometime next year.
The report also notes the new phone has a 2.8-inch screen and smaller body, which is consistent with photos that surfaced on iLounge last June. The device would be manufactured by Taiwan-based Asustek subsidiary Pegatron.
A "worldmode" iPhone would be a colossal win for Apple. The device could support any major carrier worldwide. Apple wouldn't need to sell different versions of the iPhone to support different networks, and would most likely see a huge increase in sales
BTW dude have you checked out the new Nokia N900 (release in Europe next week). It's got a powerful ARM Cortex 600mhz CPU and a separate GPU (graphics accelerator) for games and applications. Slide-down QWERTY-keyboard and a rather large 3,4" display at 800x480. The best part about it is that it runs Maemo 5, which is an OS based on Linux and it's open-source, so there's already tons of cool applications for the platform.
There are some nice previews here:

Looks very promising IMHO, but I'm going for the HTC HD2 because of the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU.![]()
I thought Android was based on Linux as well. The best part about it is that it runs Maemo 5, which is an OS based on Linux and it's open-source, so there's already tons of cool applications for the platform.
Do you have a good article about it with a link; and is it possible to install on SmartPhones in general.Definitely, but Maemo is supposed to be completely open-source and more flexible. You can even install other Linux distros on the N900.
I think the biggest attraction for me of Android is that Google have released a free GPS turn by turn program based on Google maps for free!
Not very cheap after all if you're not on an unlimited data plan.
I prefer TomTom 7 on Windows Mobile 6.5. Beats everything.
Just got my new HTC HD2 a couple of days ago as well:
I don't think this is released in the US yet. It's honestly the most awesome phone I've ever had.
Check out a review on YouTube here.
Wow, that ain't cheap. Is it worth it?Just got my new HTC HD2 a couple of days ago as well:
The Droid is an excellent phone. It has an great web browser that, like the iPhone and other Android devices, is based of off Webkit.
