Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!BP is buying popular search engine terms related to the oil spill including: oil spill, gulf spill, oil disaster. The company is paying as much as 10K per day to maintain its listing as no.1 on search results page. Of course this is driving a lot of traffic to its company site. This is certainly better than spending $300K+ on a 30 second or less tv ad.
This strategy enables BP to have more control of information on the web related to the oil spill instead of allowing complete information control by the media. The article also mentions Toyota which used a similar strategy during its break recall crisis. Toyota purchased "Toyota breaks" and provided links for car dealerships at the top of the serp. Talk about driving traffic. Just brilliant.

So what happened when they came after you? Did they threaten you? Were you sued?
A while ago I stumbled upon http://royaldutchshellplc.com/ which is managed by the Donovans. Royal Dutch Shell has tried everything within its power to get the domain. But they've failed at every turn. The company's legal business operating name is actually Royal Dutch Shell PLC.
what a waste of money they are spending, go fix the dam problem
agreed, im also bit disappointed in the UK for not protecting one of it's biggest corporate brand, its ultimately the UK who is losing money from tax revenues and potential layoffs, they need to put their neck out and stop the investigation imo else it will damage BP even further, BP can actually fall from this disaster, if its so easy to lose a third of the share values, it would collapse if the FBI investigation finds dodgy shabby work which they always will if they dig deep enough!

We live where our just washed up (within the last 48 hours)...on our pristine beaches. This was within 24 hours of the BP commercial trying to convince everyone that they are doing it right. ...when white sand has black gooey blobs, a commercial just pushes people the other way. ...the keyword buying is not a bad idea, but as it is I'm not sure it helps improve their image even to people up north that are just curious about it.
I may not choose to walk before I ever buy BP anything again, but it will be close.
