California faces a possible cataclysmic superstorm: could flood a 1/4 of homes

As if California doesn't have enough epic troubles....

A group of more than 100 scientists and experts say in a new report that California faces the risk of a massive "superstorm" that could flood a quarter of the state's homes and cause $300 billion to $400 billion in damage. Researchers point out that the potential scale of destruction in this storm scenario is four or five times the amount of damage that could be wrought by a major earthquake

What a relief, at first I thought this research might actually have some validity.

It only stands to reason, the massive system responsible for all the destruction in Australia will eventually move...to where?

La Nina is said to be responsible for what is going on in Aussie.

Typically, El Nino follows the following year or so which, as I recall, moves in the opposite direction and has greater effect on the US coast and mainland.

Cool, so not a too active (Atlantic) hurricane season this year? Meh, it only takes one hit to ruin your year.

I think that was what happened last year - no major hurricanes made landfall.

I really can not recall the intervals between a La Nina and an El Nino.

Last year (2010) was quite active 21 depressions turning into 19 named storms (7 tropical storms, 7 hurricanes, 5 major hurricanes).

El nino has little to no effect on landfalls - the east and gulf coasts just got very lucky.

In 2009, AL Gore said the polar ice caps and sheets in Greenland and Antarctica would completely melt....

    Source

In Al's movie and book "The Inconvenient truth (based on more lies and exaggerations) Al Gore said; If Greenland melted, "sea levels worldwide would increase by between 18 and 20 feet", putting much of south Florida underwater, drowning large parts of the Netherlands, and displacing more than 40 million people around Shanghai and some 60 million more in Calcutta and Bangladesh.

"A few years", which means by next year or the year after that, The state of Florida will be underwater, according to Al Gore.

For all you domainers living in the State of Florida, I suggest you pack up everything you have and move your Family to higher ground...

    IF you believe this idiot.

For somebody who has been a staunch believer in Al Gore and has repeatedly posted he believes everything in Al Gore's movie, I'd say you have a lot more to worry about since your home is located in Jacksonville, FL

    Don't you think?

I'd say we all have a lot to be concerned about....not just those of us who live in Florida or California. But, aside from that Raider, this time I refuse to be a party to your trying to turn this thread into a globalwarming argument....as you usually do.

Floridas been completely under water before many times and eventually will be again. Raiders most likely never been there as the keys are 100% coral rock. Thats why they call it "the rock" global warming is a fact, just go to noaa's site and read real scientific data, not bs on fox news.

Let me get this straight Hasrob, your saying that NOAA publishes real scientific data? A Government agency funded by a congress who will do ANYTHING to pass Cap and Trade legislation?

If they reported the actual data, what do you think would happen to their funding?

In a separate global temperature report released last week, 2010 finished in a tie with 1998 for the warmest year in the 32-year satellite temperature record, according to John Christy, professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH).

    Source

Unlike the climate center's surface-based temperatures, UAH's data are based on instruments aboard satellites from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that measure the temperature of the atmosphere from the surface up to an altitude of about 5 miles above sea level.
