Charlie Crist - now an independent

I say good job to our governor! He's willing to stand up for what he believes in and not give into political party pressure.

We need more people in Washington who are willing to look beyond political parties.

His (and McCain's) challengers are not established, long sitting, status quo congress people.

This is the sentiment I have been talking about for months now.

What the GOP was celebrating how they would sweep both houses of Congress is coming back to slap them in the face and wake up to reality.

The "party of NO" may turn into the "Party of NO DAMN WAY" this fall.

I would not be at all surprised if McCain goes this route as well in the long run - a write in independent in this fall's election should he lose the primary race.

Your not seeing the whole picture here. The only reason he is running as an independent is because he was going to lose big to a small government conservative named Marco Rubio. He's part of the old dead wood that needs to be gutted from both parties.

Yes, the only reason he's doing this is because he's started to lag behind Rubio, but the polls still have him behind. This is somewhat typical, when an established politician loses or is going to lose the primary, and his ideas are more moderate, then he goes independent. Joe Lieberman did the same, but won. Has nothing to do with party politics. The country is reacting strongly negatively to Obama, and Congress, which is causing a far right swing, that's why the polls are so heavily in favor of the Republicans, and especially the more conservative. Remember how Reagan got elected!

Good to know you're in a good mood for now, i.e., at least until the next elections. BTW, you're in Florida right?

I'm in Florida and I along with many others I know will be voting for Charlie Crist unless he takes a different stance on some of the important issues we believe in before then. All the naysayers may be surprised come election time.

Did you enjoy the 64% hike in renewal fees for tag registrations? I'd rather vote for the anti-Christ than Charlie Crist.

I will take Crist over Rubio any day, whether Crist is wearing a I, R or D. I think he surprised a bunch of Republicans who thought he was going to play puppet and decided to start doing whhat he thought was right, but this might hurt him coming up in the next Election because people are drones rather than leaders.

Crist is now leading in the polls. Looks like the Dems. are dropping their no chance candidate to get the least of two evils.

Listening to NPR earlier today, I am sorry I can not remember the Senator's name (from Pennsylvania - not Specter) I was shocked to hear how many mainline GOP candidates are in jeopardy of losing their seats because they were not "conservative enough" or "moderate enough".

I am thinking to myself as I am listening to this,

"then what in the hell does that make members who are thought of BEING moderate enough or conservative enough? Ultra moderate? Uber conservative?"

There are (in some states) attack ads of GOP vs. GOP for the "sins of the brethren" for either not being conservative enough or, egad!, actually considering voting "aye" on something. The entire concept reeks of partisan ship and puts the hammer down on the "party of no". You commit GOP suicide just the mere mention of meeting half-way on something.

Honestly, this country's entire political arena is going down hill rapidly and may be heading out of control in terms of literally splitting parties. Going the route of independent? Why? If you feel you have to run as an independent (vs either party affiliation), you are running EVEN when the bulk of your base says they do not want you! Lose the primary? Too close to call? Screw that! I'm running anyways because, dammit - I deserve that seat.

Here in my state, Richard Burr is a tool and votes 100% the party line. Guess what - the GOP (and the dems that matter) ARE NOT SMART ENOUGH to be 100% right, 100% of the time. Meanwhile, he can sit back and relax. No one won the majority of the Dem ticket which means there will be a run-off between the top two vote getters. So now Burr can watch those two burn through whatever funds they have remaining as they battle among themselves while Burr fattens his war chest.

What I want is someone who represents me! I don't give a shit if it's the dems or the republicans. I want someone that represents me and not their party or the party line.
