Outside of this usual "debate", have you ever noticed how faith here on Earth looks quite different, quite mellow actually? No mass murders, conquest agendas, harnesses of mind control, no bogeyman under the bed. Picking someone off the street and asking them why they hold some form of a faith or another, usually comes down to it being a vehicle for some hope, some peace of mind, and a little contentment. A little resistance in the face of "all fades to black". Yes I have seen street corner preachers, flaming fundamentalists, or the dangerously religious, but I think that if you take away faith from these types of people, they would be a detriment to society using another method of delivery.
