High-paid council members say they'll slash pay

A city of 40,000 people paying $800,000 K for one employee.

Wonder what my city is paying for the employees?

They actually had an article about my city's "managers" - they're making $12K a year (yes, it's a part time job).

Alot of city and county employees get a pension of 90% or maybe more of their salary upon retirement.
That would really piss some people off. $720,000 a year for sitting on your azz.
Who knows, these folks might of been sitting on their azz without retirement.
And their state is probably going to need a bailout on top of this.

I've seen the city where I live send five people to put in a 1" water meter (you can hold it with one hand),
one or two actually working and the rest, standing around. They supposedly have been doing the same thing for decades.

Did these public employees who overpaid themselves and co think no one would find out? I've never seen civilians as angry as those at the Bell, CA city council meeting.

This is actually a very big story in California, It's all over the air waves.....And it goes FAR beyond the pay these people were receiving, Federal crimes may have been committed and investigations are currently under way.

Briefly; In 2005 the city and it's council members came up with a plan to make the City of Bell a Charter city, meaning they can make their own rules and pay themselves whatever they want too, They created a special election and kept it as quiet as possible, most residents never even knew the election took place... Roughly 400 people turned out to vote, 400 people out of nearly 40,000 Residents, Many think of those 400, most were city employees and Family and friends of city employees.

The city manager alone was earning nearly $800,000 a year, That's almost twice what the President of the United States makes...... And from what I heard, this city manager was the manager of super market before he became city manager, If you can believe that.

Yeah, sure they agreed to quit, But they have a HUGE pension coming to them when they do. The city manager alone is going to earn $600,000 a year for the rest of his LIFE! And the mayor of the city had the audacity to attempt to justify these salaries... It's outrageous.

Bell is somewhat of a poor city too, Residents are working there butt off just to get by, many are laid off, out of work or in trouble of losing their jobs, and here we have these GREEDY BASTARDS increasing property taxes on these people just to feed their outrageous salaries.. It's DISGUSTING.

And the Police Chief was in on it too... I think he was getting over 400K a year.

Your 100% correct in saying that... Not only is the Public sector greedy, they earn more and live a much more comfortable lifestyle than most people in the private sector. Especially the public employees who retire in their early 50's and sit on their lazy asses at home collecting $200K+ pensions.... I know they paid into some of that, but the State (the taxpayer) paid far more into it than they did... I say CUT this part out completely and let these able bodied people find a job like everybody else.
