Interesting. Mercenaries are being brought in because much of the military is defying his orders.

An air force officer, Major Rajib Faytouni, said he personally witnessed up to 4,000 mercenaries arrive on Libyan transport planes over a period of three days starting from 14 February. He said: "That's why we turned against the government. That and the fact there was an order to use planes to attack the people."

There are some gruesome images being posted of 4 military officers burned alive for refusing to carry out their orders to bomb and shoot protesters.

Also, just heard a news bit that a pilot intentionally crashed his jet rather than bomb the oil refineries.

If this is true, this is a ploy Khadafi to get world wide support or get the sympathy of the global leaders as well as send oil prices skyrocketing.

The US has f-ed up with the turmoil in Egypt and now Libya for not taking a stance.

As anyone forgotten that this is the person who admitted responsiblity for bringing down Pan Am flight 103 and then tried to bribe the victims' families?

(BTW: I could have been on that flight - my high school band was planning a trip to the UK and if we had left when we wanted to (2 weeks prior) there was a good chance that would have been our return flight).

There were tens of thousands of US citizens living and working in Libya. There are still thousands of Americans trying to get out of Libya. It is not just the Americans, but many European nations still have tens of thousands of people trying to get out.

After all the whacko crazy shit he has done over the years, who's to say that he would not hold these people as human hostages or shields to use as bargaining chips or do something worse?

Libya has a very strong terrorism history that goes well beyond the Lockerbie tragedy. Libyan agents and spies bombed and killed Americans in Germany (at nightclubs) frequented by American military. Libya has a very long history of clandestine and covert operations that target americans and europeans. Libyans were also part of a terrorist organization called Black September. Khadafi is perhaps one of the most untrustworthy and maniacal leader there is. Much more than Saddam, he has been directly tied to terrorists acts over the past 30-40 years.

He can not be trusted to act rationally in any situation and especially now.

Coming out now (or in the past few days) condemning Khadafi would very likely put american and european citizens as great risk.

Sorry if Palin is upset that Obama has not come out and forcefully condemned Khadafi. But, I think the State Department would be a greater ease knowing that Americans were safe rather than taken hostage and suddenly this turns into another Iranian Hostage crisis on a massive scale.
