We made a little site dedicated for the European audience who are interested in the US elections. I wasn't expecting anything, I have seen some statistics, so I knew it was leaning towards Obama, but not this much.
Not final results, but only a few days left:
Barack Obama 87.9% - John McCain 12.1%

I find it interesting how other countries complain about the US tries to make sure elections are fair and tell the US to stay out of their own countries but now the whole world seems to be quite presistant on telling us how to vote.

Not really; It's a poll about who the Europeans would vote for if they got a vote. That's not the same as telling anybody who to vote for.
And on the other hand - who the US citizens vote for affects the rest of the world quite a bit, while it doesn't really affect the US at all who happens to rule any of most countries in the world... even if that is used as an excuse, sometimes.

The thing is that these outside (the US) polls are biased towards the main two. I'm willing to bet that most people don't even know that there are thirteen names on the ballot for president here in Broward County, FL, many of which are on the ballots nation-wide.
The thing that most people don't even want to know is that the US president has VERY LITTLE POWER, much like the Queen of England (if I understand the UK political system enough). Most of the power in this country is in the congress (the senate and the house of representatives). The president can have the greatest plans in the world to make everything great but if congress doesn't like it, then those plans are worthless.
While the US government may affect other countries more than their government affects mine, it is still the US government. The government that my tax dolalrs pay for, the same governemt that I voice my opinion on who should do the best job for me and my situation. I know it sounds selfish but it is the truth. (And yes, I understand the importants of good relationships with other countries but I think, especially in a time like this, the US needs to be a top priority for our government).

Possibly some don't know, but most *do* know there are other runners too. But since they aren't really in the race, it's not interesting making a poll including them.
If it comes to that; I pay taxes to the US government too, through a corporation I own. So I fund them, but don't get to vote anyway.
But it's citizens, not necessarily tax payers, who get to vote... except the 20% or so who have lost their right to vote for one reason or another.
(In my country even prisoners are allowed to vote... even non-citizens are allowed to vote as long as they are legal residents; Not on the national level, but in the local elections. But I can't say I agree with that policy.)

Educated? That's debatable. Europe's record in choosing leaders is not that good.
Many of our ancestors made the choice of leaving Europe and that nonsense behind forever.
So, Europe joins the likes of Cuba, Hamas, N. Korea, Libya and others.....
I think polls have limited value.
They are used by the news media mainly for their entertainment value and in some cases to try to sway the vote.
My, some of you really have a hard*n for BO, escpecially brits.![]()

That's probably because we speak English, it makes it easier for us to be able to tell when someone is lying; with Bush, there is another way to tell - his lips move.
Oh, I didn't realise that - for us it was more of a weekend kind of thing...![]()

Please vote Republican in 2012, America can not sustain another 4 years
of Liberal policies that are fiscally and socially destroying the country..
Greg there is your great rightwing "USA saved Europe" fable, then there is reality.
The Battle of Britain was decided largely by British and Canadian fighter pilots using planes built mainly in Canada and Britain - the spitfire and hawker hurricane. The battle was long over before America had war declared on them by Germany. Germany would never directly threaten English soil again. From there America WITH it's allies helped Western Europe defeat the Nazis.
It was the Soviet Union that smashed the German armies - by a long shot. I know right-wing Americans can't stand the thought of commies beating nazis but there we are.
This twisted view that some rightwing Americans have of the war comes from their educational system. I remember helping my niece with her history homework -she lives in Arizona. On a module dealing with D-Day, there was no mention of the British or Canadians, only the Americans at Omaha and Utah beaches. No mention that it was only the Canadians that reached their objectives that first day, no mention that a large percentage of the covering naval ships and air force were British and Canadian, and certainly no mention of the Free French forces. Thumbing through the rest of the course material it was easy to see how they get this lop-sided view of history.
As for WW1 - entry in 1917 hardly constitutes saving anyone. By that time the German army was a shadow of its former self, and even with the Russians playing revolution, thus freeing up their forces from the East, they best they could hope for was more stalemate. American doughboys helped end the war sooner, but it would have still ended with a German defeat without their entry. The greatest large scale battles on the Western front took place before the Americans even got there - and it was these battles that bleed the German army more than anything else. The German army was blunted and spent before April 1917.
