That's certainly the case here. Tons of people have it including two people I know directly. Symptoms are usually mild and most kick it without the need for any treatment whatsoever.

As I said earlier, it's no big deal.

There you have it folks.

He knows two people who have had it and kicked with no treatment whatsoever.

I'll ask the mods to close this thread based on that scientific research and expert opinion.

Any what gives you more credibility? You must've watched some MSNBC documentary on the Swine Flu and now you're an expert? Let me tell you something, a "mask" isn't gonna do squat.

Here is the situation.

There were many, many updates released yesterday. WHO, CDC, AMA, and countless other national and international organizations - all come out with announcements but none of those individual announcements came out with the full contents in one concise statement. Why? Because no one was really prepared to mention all the contents in one statement.

I only used MSNBC as a source. Not a damn soul here looks at those links let alone want to read a boring ass site or medical journal.

MSNBC at least wrote the piece in a language and attempted to make sense that perhaps a layperson could understand.

I truly like the "let me tell you something".

I'll really take that into consideration.

You can start by going back and looking at who I said should be wearing the mask.

The beginning is typically a great place to start.

I don't proclaim to be an expert (unlike your good self) but the figures speak for themselves. As you pointed out, 55,000 new cases in the UK last week alone – a couple/few have died, and most of those had underlying heath problems.

You can do all the scaremongering you like – the numbers don't lie.

.mobi anyone?

55,000 people getting the flu in July.

In one week.
In one country.
In the middle of summer.

You are so correct.

The numbers don't lie.

Send a message via ICQ to jberryhill

On the way into Sydney for the ICANN meeting, it was sort of interesting that as you enter the customs and immigration area, they had set up an infrared camera on the line of folks entering, so that they could identify anyone with a fever.

0.2% of swine flu cases are resulting in death, a mortality rate that suggests the virus is of mild to moderate virulence. In fact, Siegel said the mortality rate is probably even lower since most swine flu deaths are being reported, but many nonfatal cases are likely going unreported.

Did you bother to pick up a cop of the Sydney Morning Herald?
I'm pretty certain that was the same weekend they published the fact that some 97% of all diagnosed flu cases in Victoria had been H1N1. I've already had it, in fact.
Seriously, the symptoms are slightly worse than regular flu, but it's nothing to panic about.
Wearing a mask when your sick should be a common courtesy. Asians have known this for decade. Ride the train in Tokyo and see just how many people are wearing masks. They even come with designs or cute manga characters on them for the more stylish types.

To reiterate, quit panicking because unless you're already ill with something else you're unlikely to die, you'll just feel really shitty... just like regular flu.

And regular flu does not have the propensity to migrate to inside the lungs causing alveolar damage and sloughing off of tissue and causing lung damage and potentially death from pulmonary complications.
And I have yet to read any reports that would substantiate that it kills those that are already weak. In fact, I am reading just the opposite which has the medical community concerned. If 60-70% of those who end up dying are otherwise healthy, fit, and young then that certainly dispels that notion.

By posting steps you can take to protect your self and knowing what your right are as a patient FOR ANY reason, how is that scare mongering? By cautioning parents what steps to take if they suspect their child is ill and to ascertain NOW before the new school resumes if the school district has a plan for widespread outbreaks, that's spreading fear?

From my perspective, posting that there is nothing to be concerned with is the wrong message.

I sense a site about swine flu in the works.

How about another site about killer bees after finishing your swine flu site. I remember that was the big fad in Texas during the 80's. Every night I watched the news about the killer bees coming to get us in Houston. Clearly the killer bee pandemic needs to be brought to the forefront again. KillerBeePandemic.com is available to register.

I already have several swine flu sites.

Thanks to people that ignore the dangers and warning signs of drinking and driving, taking too many drugs, think smoking won't hurt them, feel they will never get in a wreck while texting...I will always be happily and gainfully employed.

Honestly, I should be thankful people's stupidity and ignorance - which I define as those who know better, have heard the potential adverse affects, have been told that they will die from something (drugs, HIV, lung CA, etc) if they do not do something to change their lifestyle but willfully chose to ignore them.

Thankfully, no one has perfected the brain transplant yet.

As for the killer bees, naw - not interested in something that is going to happen. I am more in tune to what is happening.

You can take credit for that seeing it was your idea.

Please return to the program you were watching.

At last, you're beginning to see the light. Perhaps that sh*t (the vaccine) will be more dangerous than a mild case of the flu!

I'm more worried about the poverty epidemic right now, the $787 billion dollar stimulus injection didn't work.

REMINDER:

If you have school aged children,
check their schools' FLU POLICY!

Nearly every school district in the nation has compiled a policy for dealing with a Swine Flu outbreak.
This includes online classes utilizing such services as BlackBoard.

Also, it is the person with flu like symptoms that needs to wear the mask.
Many ER waiting rooms have now instituted a handwashing for ALL WHO ENTER and mask wearing policy for the person demonstrating flu like symptoms.

If you are a parent, be sure to check the school's policy.
This in itself may be a hardship and create chaos for those that work (if the child has to stay home due to school closure).
But at least you will know what to prepare for.

This is what separates this flu form normal flu - it has an affinity for the lungs.

Not more so than any normal flu, no it doesn't. I thought you were a doctor, and knew about such things, but it sounds like not. This flu has a lower percentage of serious viral pneumonia than most other flus the last 20 years or so. The only difference is that so many more are catching this flu, so the total number of serious cases are higher. Also, since this flu is so much more reported on, almost every single serious case is reported in the media, making it sound even worse.
