I have not had time to read into this issue. Is this good or bad that it passed?
All offers good for 72 hours except running auctions
Progeria Research | Pulmonary Fibrosis | Dammit!
Moved to political before the wars start.
But people like Olympia Snowe will be exempt or get a 5,000 gallon "exemption".
2,000 pages - who does have the time?
This is sad.
My father in law is glad he retired (he was a surgeon) and only teaches now. If he was still active - he would have had to retire.

I am not for nor against something I have not read.
A good friend of mine is meeting with NC Senator Burr (R) tomorrow.
I do want to point out something -
we are and have been paying for others healthcare for others for decades now. This just happens to be the first time we are seeing it publicized. Anyone who comes into an emergency room to be seen can not be turned away. Those that have no insurance know this. Illegal aliens know this. Homeless people know this.
That is why the ER has become the doctors office for tens of millions. It has been a revolving door of indigent in, money out.
I have to cry B.S. on this one - my wife dislocated her hip last year and the hospital REFUSED to do anything until I paid.
Then - after they got it back in the x-ray tech re-dislocated it and they insisted on taking her into the OR and actually had her on the bed next to the elevator and wouldn't push the button until I paid another deductible.
This was an E.R. visit that was the end of an ambulance ride in a regular hospital (not a clinic and not a private hospital).

You may have found a hosp that is so financially strapped that they are in need of any revenue stream, especially from those that can pay.
Were you able to file with insurance and get reimbursed?

Same, in my hospital I already know who the lady is, I call her 'the Vulture'. One time I got into a car accident, messed up my neck, split a disk and could barely move... I am laying on a stretcher fresh off the abulence and she comes in asking me for my insurance card.
1.) I could barely move
2.) I was in a massive amount of pain with no meds yet
3.) I was in a stretcher tied down and couldn't even reach my back pocket if I wanted to
When I explained this to her and yelled at her to get the **** out of my face, she tried to actually go through my pockets to retrieve my wallet...
I was so pissed at this point and hurting I told her if she put another hand on me I would file sexual harassment charges against her... she flipped out and left the room...
My sister got their like 10 mins after and this lady was already harassing her for my insurance card, I called her all kinds of names...
After getting discharged, I called the hospital, explained what happened and considering I have good insurance, they just waived my deductible and my insurance covered everything else...
I can't comment on that one case, sounds like a screwy hospital, but as a matter of course ER's are required to treat everyone who comes in (insured or not).
So if poor people have insurance that enables them to get checkups and stay relatively healthy, that should cost the system a lot less than having them get very sick and then make frequent use of expensive ER resources.

This is the hope. And fundamentally it should succeed. A doctors office visit with be a pittance of what an ER visit is.
As a side note, anyone who has children that are unsure what they want to pursue as a career -
- or if you are looking for a stable career with good pay and benefits...
Primary Care Physicians (estimate a shortage of 10,000+ already. Many med school programs are in place for rural communities to pay your entire medical school costs in return for service to the community)
Physician Assistants (will take up a large portion of work load to relieve the patient load of primary care physicians)
Nurse Practioners (see above)
Nurse Anesthesiologists (more and more positions will be created as emphasis continues to be placed on outpatient surgery as well as retiring earlier pioneers. Starting pay nationally is $157,000.00 - $217,000.00
HIM (Health Information Management) CIO (Chief Information Officers) - All patient, medical, and hospital records will be going to electronic. Coding for procedures will go from 13,000 codes to 69,000 by 2013. There is an estimated 50,000 positions open for people qualified in Medical Coding, Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Health Informatics, Health Biomedical Information, and Chief Information Officers almost immediately and the next several years to come)
This is great news. I live in Japan where socialized medicine has been around for YEARS and it WORKS. You will see, give it time.
I pay $15/mo currently for peace of mind that I can get sick, I can break my leg or I can come down with an incurable ailment and be treated instead of rejected and/or dropped from insurance.
I beleive House and Senate bills have to be reconciled and then revoted on but not sure about the revote.
