Kids simply can't use "growth hormones" under 21 (or at any age preferably) without presenting a formidable threat to your physical and mental health. Your endocrine system is still developing, and hormonal intervention for any youth can be extremely dangerous.
These are especially tough on the heart, your liver, and can fuse growth plates (ironically), preventing future growth.
I must be missing something, because your doctor seems like a complete and total idiot. You are smart to not even consider altering your sons chemistry.
I wish that were true Mir, and I know you are just stating what you heard on the television, but as long as your body is still growing, growth hormones (as defined be me above) pose a big risk.
kids using growth hormones when their endocrine systems are still developing is basically throwing a wrench in the proverbial cog when the system is STILL DEVELOPING. Hormones are very complex. It just isn't worth the risk imo.
It is frightening and sad to think our western society has come down to placing looks and vanity - all that is outward appearing - being emphasized over what is inside the person.
But, who am I to say what is right and wrong.
This is what keeps cosmetic surgeons in business.
Pretty soon someone will come up with bone augmentation for the "vertically challenged".
I had a friend growing up, 15-17, who was below average height and awkwardly slim. He now plays in the NHL and is well over 6 feet tall. IMO its best to let nature take it course we all mature and develop at much different paces.

This Doctor must be stupid if that doesn't make sense.
Heredity may skip a generation many times, especially height.
Your parent or your wife's parent may be short?
One of my best friend was only 5'5" until 18.
He grew 4 inches within one year and 3 more inches year after.
His father is only about 5'4" and his mother about 5'6".
But, his grandfather was about 6'.
Further more, my friend's son (24) is about 5'6" just like his grand father.
I am glad you didn't listen to that stupid doctor![]()

Any time one's own child is involved it is always a difficult decision.
But unless there is something abnormally wrong or needs to be corrected immediately, this "wait and see" approach may be best.
Who knows...your kid may turn out to be the hottest thing in Hollywood in a few years.
And, you always have us to blame.![]()
I just want to add that during the primary school (7-14 years old) I was the third shortest in the class between the guys, in the second year of high school, I grew over 20 cm's during the summer (sorry no inches), and I became the third tallest in the class.. I was 16 years old at that time. I also used to play basketball for many years which helped to grow (all the jumping exercises, they are at least natural), maybe your son wants to play basketball? Ask him.

One of my best friends was almost a 1-1/2' shorter than most kids in our class - he had chronic asthma and once he was off the medication for the asthma he shot up in height very quickly, and now is the same height as me 6'+
As a kid I had to take pills to increase my appetite so I would gain weight, well long story made short - I wish I could sue that doctor now because I weigh +260lbs

Very sad to add the announcement of another (see previous comment, Post #22) local 15 year old boy collapsing and dying while playing in a JV Basketball Game. This is the second young teen athlete (one football) in this short new school to collapse and die on the field, essentially.
I had been putting this off mentioning anything here until it became public knowledge (http://www.wxii12.com/news/18220005/detail.html). The cause of death was, again, a heart defect.
Did this kid have a growth spurt? Unknown. Not surprisingly, many parents are now urging their teen athletes and doctors to improve the quality of their physical. And some parents are even requesting their child be stress tested to be cleared to play or continue on.
Rightfully so. This should frighten any parent to think that their seemingly normal healthy teen collapses and dies in front of their eyes.
Over reacting to request a stress test? Perhaps. Requesting a more stringent physical? Absolutely not. My physicals for sports consisted of a doc holding my nuts (at least he said he was a doc) and telling me to turn my head and cough.
Imagine those words, stress test, and the reason/meaning behind those words. To detect any earlier heart anomalies or other conditions (high blood pressure, asthma, difficulty breathing) while the body is under stress. Then consider the ADDED STRESS growth hormones would add to the already fatigued and stressed body simply by the aging and growing process of a teen and then compound that by the added mental and physical stress of excelling, doing school work, trying to fit in, and peer pressure.
So if a kid wants to bulk up, grow taller, and become a body builder over night for self-esteem and to impress the young girls, you might as well feed them bowls of steroids in the morning.
I had an old lady, who also said she was a doc do that. Got me really sick.My physicals for sports consisted of a doc holding my nuts (at least he said he was a doc) and telling me to turn my head and cough.

Hmm...now that I look back, was there a reason to have the physical at 730 pm in a truck stop bathroom?
