Have they got the guts to take on Obama?

Somehow I feel that McCain is the only person on the right who has what it takes to take on Obama. He practices realpolitik and that alone makes him more appealing than the average conservative politician. The only problem is his age and may be the fact that he has made 2 unsuccessful bids for the presidency.

    So who's left?

    [courtesy of economist.com]

Grasping the House and more Senate seats is one thing. But gunning for the top seat in this economic climate is something else. It seems the Republicans understand this, which is good. The problem is the right hasn't firmly backed (or encouraged for that matter) any one Republican. They should have by now. The earlier they throw support behind someone (anyone except Palin) the better. People need to be able to warm up to politicians. And politicians need time to test the voters and fine tune their game in order to garner more votes. Hey, it's politics.

The Republicans ought to panic; for each day that expires the presidential race draws closer. Rest assured the Obama team is a formidable opponent and has already begun the race.

Do you realize how many on your list have to resign their positions from FOX news?

Seriously - employed by and/or sponsored by FOX news either as a paid consultant, a paid contributor, a paid "guest", a paid show host, or simply on FOX news payroll.

I like how they call Ron Paul a crank. He and maybe one or two Democrats are the only ones who would actually follow to the letter the Constitution of the United States.

If ending the empire, stop spending more than you get in tax, stop offshoring and ending the Fed is what makes one a crank - I guess he is.

And isn't it funny how the media including the rightwing Fox news completely ignored that during the last Republican convention Paul's supporters far outweighed everyone else... it's like he's got super-leprosy and even mentioning his name will infect you.

If the American economy continues to create jobs and the housing collapse ceases and turns around in the next six months Obama will probably squeak out a win. Not that he deserves it, but because of those running he would be the best choice.

Obama's a wimp. The only reason the democratic party would consider him again is because they are wimps.

I'm not sure what the poster means by having "Guts" to take on Obama, Any Republican that goes against this twit will rip him into shreds... With what you ask? 4 years of massive debt and record unemployment for starters.

Please vote Republican in 2012, America can not sustain another 4 years
of Liberal policies that are fiscally and socially destroying the country.

    Info, good post.

There is one thing for sure the 'Tea Party' has been a disaster for the GOP. But hell, that is politics, quite often the loud-mouthed, ill-informed, unreasoning, and really cranky fringe are taken as the 'face' of the party, and yes it happens to all parties because the 'media' are not really interested in the mundane politics because that does not get viewers or sell papers.

At the moment I think that from the list the likely contenders are:

    - Pawlenty
    - Daniels
    - Huckabee

(only given in this order as this is the order they appear in the list in the OP).

Will any of them win against Obama? My sincere belief is 'no'. None of the above have the ability to resonate with anything but a very small percentage of the voters, and this is where your point Info about 'time' being needed for a politician to become known is indeed critical. Unless some disasterous new event occurs in the economy or some other major area of American life generally (and here I exclude a terrorist attack of whatever nature) then I do not foresee Obama losing in 2012. What the Republicans actually need is a 'Ronald Reagan' figure, without that they are sunk, but I do not expect them to admit this publicly (I wouldn't in their shoes).

I think there is another point that severly damages the GOP and its chosen candidate, whoever that is. Although life has become harder for many Americans due to the ecconomy it is not as bad as the Republicans forecast it would be under President Obama, indeed things are starting slowly to turn around. So what of the Republican scare tactics? Obama was born in Hawaii, Obama is not soft on terrorism, the world has not fallen to the socialists, and indeed the economy has not collapsed - even in the worst world economic climate since WWII.

From the perspective of first attempters would I want to go up against the charismatic, and now proven sitting President Obama? 'No', I think many of those who are likely Presidential candidates in the future will say it is worth waiting four more years and have a much increased chance of winning, for why take on the baggage label of a 'loser' for the future.

Check this out Seraphim... As I'm pulling out of the Home Depot shopping center where the illegal aliens hangout, one of them is on the sidewalk holding a sign that reads; "Get your Contractors License today"

Yeah, we need to make all contractors legal, and what better person to tell us than an illegal alien.

Calling members racists and bigots are not insults?.. Not saying you did it, but one of your leftist pals sure did.

Very well said Bill. A shame that the only Republican bold enough to tell it like it is, Ron Paul, is considered an extremist within the GOP. He is the only guy I like on that list.
