The MyPhone secret leaked out.
Now this.
Looks like MS wants to go head-to-head with Apple.
This could be real interesting.
Heavy weights slugging it out.

May be they gave up fighting Google
They could not come up with an AdSense like product.

Personally I think a brick and mortar store idea is a bad move.
That is an un-needed expenditure.
Their product is sold nationwide in tremendous stores and available anywhere on line.
The idea of having people walk in off the street to buy software or a new MyPhone is a long stretch.
Apple has a product selection and products people actually want.
Perhaps MS needs a loss for a tax write off.

Microsoft gets it wrong most of the time when it comes to new products. So I see another failure here.
I dunno, the way I remember it is if Apple hadnt been so stupid and greedy when they came out with the graphic user interface, they would have owned the desktop market and Bill Gates would have been a nobody.
Chargeing double what their product was worth was the business blunder of the century. They literally created a market for someone with a clue to move in and take it away from them.
Actually, if memory serves, it was the good folks of Parc Xerox who came up with the GUI idea.
I'm not sure about the store idea, it could end up as a negative for their existing distribution channels and thus hurt sales.

on a side note:
I was totally unaware that Apple had opened up a store this weekend in Greensboro, NC.
One person camped out for 16 hours to be the first one in.
His goal was not to buy anything but to simply be the first one in the new store.
He was successful in achieving and keeping both goals.
You know you have a successful product when in becomes such a cult trend.
Right. Apple couldnt protect or patent it. So they just sat there and watched PC's take their market away from them because they wanted to make 100% profit on each unit sold.
Two years later a lot of computer stores wouldnt even stock Macs, Thats probably the reason they opened their own outlets.
