Where do you think the next biological or radiological weapon will come from and how it was smuggled into the country? A shipping port? Or along the Mexican or Canadian border?

Golly, Mexico is real secure. Dubya appropriated funds for a "virtual fence". I feel "virtual safe" knowing that a 170 mile virtual fence is standing guard along a 2900 mile border.

and who recognizes that first hook, line, and sinker was the WMD that the Talking Heads of the Bush administration sold the world on the need to halt Saddam...

and to someone who recognizes that fact that Iraq was not a co-conspirator in the 9-11 plot...

I was a merchant seaman 7 years. The only weapon on an American cargo ship is a 45 caliber pistol the chief mate has locked in a safe in his room.

Oh, and a few guys would smuggle 22 caliber pistols to Taiwan and sell them for $3,000 to $4,000 each. ($100 pistols at best). A box a ammo would cost them $300 extra. If they pulled them out to protect the ship it would be surely be 5 years in prison later though for having a gun aboard ship.

I'll take a pirate on with a .45 any day of the week! Great stopping power in that round...well, out to about 100 yds max or so lol...but definitely enough to keep them off the boat I would think. That is if the crew is'nt afraid to use it and is well trained to shoot.

No merchant ship can carry more than ONE 45 caliber pistol if it is a USA registered vessel. At least that was the rule when I retired about 1989. Dunno now. Maybe it was nation wide then I dunno. I only shipped west coast. But I shipped for several companies and it was always one 45 pistol in the chief mates safe. The pursers safe had all the cash.

Nobody has mentioned that to open the pursers safe, is like, 3 to 5 million in easy cash, the ship uses it to buy groceries and pay us seaman advances abroad.
