Thumbs down Horrific! African churches denounce kids as ‘witches’

African churches denounce children as ‘witches’
Pastors accuse thousands of children, leading to torture or death

WTF! is wrong with people.

From the same region who's elders, tribal leaders, and "doctors" who proclaimed the cure for aides was having sex with a virgin (which lead to months old baby being brutally mutilated for sex) comes this new twist - proclaiming children as witches!

I am horrified at this.

Sounds mild for Africa. Usually they're hacking each other apart by the thousands, or starving to death in the millions...

I would imagine that this is in addition to the normal every day genocide...

They're burning albinos alive as well, read about that recently too. It never ends over there...

This is very disturbing. I hope for the sake of the children that someone will stop these lunatics from killing them.

It is very sad that religion can become so twisted that itself becomes the evil it claims to fight.....

The project that I am involved with in Ethiopia, Ethiopia is perhaps one of the more "christian" of nations in Africa. But still, rule of the tribe or the village is mostly dictated by the elders and other tribal leaders.

It bothers me to see these ill-advised policies and decrees being accepted as the norm or law handed down.

At times, I honestly believe that this is their method of decreasing their numbers for survival in difficult times. Who knows.

As for the machete hacking, these are some of the most brutal attacks that one can imagine. Sharpened steel is unforgiving.

Yes, unfortunately. In most cases the parents are doing the killing, while "church" officials supervise.

Lol, you are so naive. I am sure they went there, to these churches voluntarily... Not because someone forced them to believe some ridiculous, radical ritual via religion... Now what you fail to understand about my comment is people USING religion to get the victims into these particular situations, not the people acting on them. They are crazy, psychotic, scum of the earth, nothing less...

I can understand you having your faith, but just because I oppose any religion isn't a reason for you to flip MY beliefs in a obstruct, immoral position for your own benefit and satisfaction.

One can have good morals, one can love and one can make its own decisions and have a open mind without religion, just fyi.

I'm naive? Retarded homicidal maniacs are chopping people apart in Africa, and you're blaming religion for that. While you're thinking cap is still on, why not throw some blame at Bronze Age technology and photosynthesis?

It's idiots telling other idiots, to do stuff in the name of religion.

As a species, we haven't moved on much in the past few hundred years - technically, yes - thinking for ourselves, no. Witch hunts obviously still go on - just the 'witches' are different.

One person understands what I am saying, if others can just get past their own arrogance and ignorance they might too...

Religion AND abused religion has been the cause for 95% of any tragedy, genocide, etc. That is my own number [%], but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more...

If you're going to toss around words like ignorance, then you might want to display at least a basic understanding of human history. Dig up casualty figures from every major human conflict in the last 1,000 years, and you'll see that not even 1% of those were caused by religion.

Thumbs down

feel physically sick reading that

any form of religious extremism is a bad thing
this time not muslim extremists, but evangelical christian extremists

Quote:
U.S. branches ‘had no idea’
The Nigerian church is a branch of a Californian church by the same name. But the California church says it lost touch with its Nigerian offshoots several years ago.

"I had no idea," said church elder Carrie King by phone from Tracy, Calif. "I knew people believed in witchcraft over there but we believe in the power of prayer, not physically harming people."
The Mount Zion Lighthouse — also named by three other families as the accuser of their children — is part of the powerful Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. The Fellowship's president, Ayo Oritsejafor, said the Fellowship was the fastest-growing religious group in Nigeria, with more than 30 million members.
"We have grown so much in the past few years we cannot keep an eye on everybody," he explained.

Lol.. Obviously Religion didn't come down with its pimp hand and assault rifle to ***** slap and kill people, but its following / misinformation did. You are acting like I am talking about a person here rather than a belief(s).

Religion causes separation, confusion and hate, as well as hope and faith for some, but it is definitely out weighed by manipulation for its benefit.

You would be surprised how many people are "religious" just because they want to have some sort of "heavenly" after life or that believing in a God is going to make you have a better future... It's all selfish and bullshit...

We all really don't know, nor can any of us prove our beliefs, but I am afraid science also out weighs theory.

An Shi Rebellion: 30 Million
Taiping Rebellion: 30 Million

Soviet Communism: 15 Million
Conquests Of Timur: 20 Million
World War I: 25 Million
Holodomor: 10 Million
Russian Civil War: 9 Million
Napoleonic Wars: 6 Million
Yellow Turban Rebellion: 7 Million
Vietnam War: 5 Million
Korean War: 3 Million
