I agree with this to an extent. I believe everyone, no matter what their circumstances are can be whoever they want to be. I have always believed this, excuses only hold you back. This is why I and everyone else around the world loved America, no matter who you are, where you are from, what you have, you always had a chance to be whatever you wanted to be.

Unfortunately, that vision of America has been deteriorating every day since 2001, including now, with Obama in office.

the loan institutions gave out risky loans to anyone who wanted to buy a house, which led to home prices jacking up. the financial system packaged those mortgages into investments, rated them sound, and then sold them back to the people. When the banks and institutions started to fail, the US govt had to bail them out with tax money, and it wasn't long before they started paying out their big bonuses again. And a lot of the key players in the US government who dealt with the financial crisis have ties to the big banks. I agree with self sufficiency and working hard to get ahead, but a lot of people did that and still got hurt. Amazing more bankers and financial people didn't end up in jail after 2008.

Correction: Lenders and Real Estate agents begged people to buy homes and promised them that they don't need down payment.

In some cases they gave money back to buy furniture etc..

No questions about Immigration status ..
It was a scam happened in front of our eyes and we did not realize it.

While I agree that every man makes his way, not everyone will be rich - assuming that's the goal. Self-sufficient? Possibly. But rich? I don't think so.
